Leitchville welcomes road travellers with friendly, energetic pro tourism approach
Coffee time Leitchville Hotel
Leitchville, 262km from Melbourne, is a small, peaceful stopover with a progressive approach to road tourism. For example Betty came today from the Progress Association to welcome GSA to the Travellers Rest Area.
It is the family friendly country atmosphere which is also the nearby Leitchville Hotels attraction, huge counter meals, and excellent fresh coffee are underlined by Publican Ryan’s and the locals’ positive attitude to tourism in the area.
Travellers Rest Free Camping area is just across the road from the hotel. Locals say it brings new tourism dollars to the town on a daily basis.
GSA camped at Travellers Rest. It's such a friendly place with energetic and pro tourism people everywhere. We are invited to join follow campers at the pub for dinner.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club of Australia have just installed a dump point.
Rosalia Scott and Dawn Billman edit Leitchville Lines, the Progress Associations fortnightly newsletter which has an impressive picture of Murray Cod taken from the river which is close to the town.
Quirky dairy centre bus shelter
Leitchville was gazetted a town in 1926 and serves as the centre of a modern dairy development. Leitchville Lines says some of the highest production herds in Victoria are located in the region.
Leitchville Travellers Rest gets a big mention in the Winter Edition of Leitchville Lines: Comments from travellers include - “There are no showers at the rest area so I decided to ask the Leitchville Hotel Publican (Ryan) if we could pay for showers; he said normally he would say yes, but he was full up with workers.
But this is what he did. Phoned the Swimming Pool committee to arrange for the hot water to be put on and the showers opened. Joel (President) and Michelle (Treasurer) of the committee came to the pool and set all in motion for four of us to have nice hot showers. A big thank you to all involved in Leitchville’s great town spirit”.
The thanks is signed by RV travellers from WA, Vic and Tasmania.
There are also more positive comments on Leitchville’s country friendly attitude by travellers from Queensland and New South Wales
