Top Tourist - Park chain translates cabin accommodation Top Tourist - Park chain translates cabin accommodation |
The new 2006 Top Tourist Parks of Australia Directory bites the bullet on the classification of cabin accommodation in its 180 member parks throughout Australia.
Chairman Clive Johnson, of Mandalay Holiday Resort, Busselton WA, told GoSeeAustralia that the variety of names which are used throughout Australia to describe the cabin experience confuses the user.
"We brought the various types of cabins together into four classifications to assist the traveller in knowing what to expect when they book a cabin within a particular category".
"Top Tourist Parks now classifies its cabins as –
Superior, Deluxe, Standard ensuite and Standard non-ensuite," he said.
There can be variations in the different cabin categories, depending on the caravan parks location. It should be remembered that cabins are not serviced on a daily basis and it is important to discuss the park's policy on servicing units when booking.

Each of the Top Tourist parks has categorized their cabins for inclusion in the new directory.
The difference between the categories is mostly related to the availability of additional linen, towel hire, tea and coffee making facilities and the level of entertainment units provided, ranging from TV, DVD and CD at the superior level down to just a TV in the Standard non-ensuite cabins.
Accreditation also has the chain’s support.
"Caravan parks which are accredited have the distinctive yellow tick on a green background to show that they meet the requirements of the National Accreditation Program", he said.
To show the logo operators must show that they –
Meet all legal requirements.
Care for the environment through sustainable environmental management practices.
Care for their customers through high standards of service;
Operate under a Code of Conduct.
Information in the listings in the directory can be checked when booking by using the GoSeeAustralia Caravan Parks search.
It is important to check as facilities and prices can change.
The directory adds to its commitment to making it easy to understand what is being offered with an explanation of symbols. Icons include Linen Hire, Other Accommodation, Shop/Kiosk, Motor homes, Van storage, Sewer Dump Point, email and arid zone.
GoSeeAustralia attended the recent Top Tourist Parks conference in Brisbane.
Activities included visits to Australia’s National Award winning caravan park, Brisbane Holiday Village and a remarkable insight into the hi-tech world of making a mattress at the Sleepyhead factory (pictured).
With caravan park charges drawing Forum comment on many sites which includes suggestions of setting up a chain based on "basic caravanning" needs it is worth noting that the typical charges at Top Tourist seem affordable.
