Winners are grinners and Faye and Peter Mansell of Junee Caravan Park were all smiles when they won the Best Inland Tourist Park 2006 Award at the Inland Tourism Awards on Sunday, night July 30 in Wagga Wagga.
Top Tourist Parks Executive Manager, Bill Pycroft, told GoSeeAustralia: “It is good to see our members taking part in awards like this as it encourages other parks to take part. For Faye and Peter their success is recognition of all the hard work that they have put in”.
Junee Caravan Park won against stiff competition as Another Top Tourist Park chain member the current CCIANSW Best Inland Park winner, Austin Tourist Park was runner-up.
Kara Lollback of the Riverina News reported that the Riverina cleaned up at the Inland Tourism Awards with six of the 14 major awards. Competing with the best tourism organisations from the New England, North West, Outback and Central regions of NSW the Riverina took the lead in caravan parks, accommodation, wines and tourism attractions.
Faye and Peter Mansell’s effort in building Junee Caravan Parks Star rating from no stars to four in seven years was honoured.
“We feel we have achieved so much in building our business and to have it awarded on this scale feels magnificent,” Peter Mansell said.
The Riverina News reported that NSW Tourism Minister, Sandra Nori, said the Riverina was taking Australia’s most innovative approach to tourism.
She told the Countrylink Inland tourism Award audience that although rising fuel costs and an increased cost of living is driving national tourism rates down the Riverina has “ the smarts” to continue to attract tourists to the region. In summing up award judges said they had been impressed by the standard of the Junee entry presentation and the level of positive comment in the submission from visitors to Junee Caravan Park.

Junee is a historic railway town, midway between Sydney and Melbourne on the alternate Olympic Highway route to Queensland. Junee is home to the Organic Licorice and Chocolate Factory, which won the Best Tourist Attraction Award. The attraction is within a few minutes walk of Junee Caravan Park. The park is also close to the Railway Roundhouse Museum, historic Monte Cristo Homestead and a short drive from Temora's Aviation museum.
The Pet Friendly Junee Caravan Park has a lakeside location and is clean, quiet and inviting, close to clubs and shops. Junee is surrounded by the Shires of Coolamon, Temora, Cootamundra, Gundagai, and the City of Wagga Wagga
It is an ideal base for visits to the region. The Murrumbidgee River in on its southeast edge while the undulating, fertile pastoral and cultivated country is broken only by the small villages of Illabo, Bethungra, Wantabadgery and Old Junee.
Historic ‘Monte Cristo’ is situated on a hill overlooking Junee and commands a panoramic view of the whole area. One of the finest colonial mansions in the Riverina, it was built in 1884 by C.W. Crawley, an influential pioneer in Junee.
‘Monte Cristo’ has been fully restored and furnished with fine antiques. It is open daily for inspection. Temora is 30 minutes from Junee. The Temora Aviation Museum has one of the world’s finest collections of flying historic aircraft. Flying weekends are held approximately every six weeks. It is a great day for the whole family. For golfers the Junee Golf Club has one of the Riverina’s most interesting and challenging 18 holes, 72 par golf courses.

Christine Edwards and her son Phillip represented Inland Tourism Award Runner-up the Austin Tourist Park. The Top Tourist Parks of Australia chain member has a strong record of award success. This year it is took the 2006 Caravan & Camping Industry Assoc of NSW Award for Best Inland Park, its second win in three years.
The Austin Top Tourist Park won the 2005 Inland NSW Tourism Award for best Inland Caravan Park. It won the 2004 Caravan & Camping Industry Assoc of N.S.W. Award for Best Inland Park. In 2001 Austin Tourist Park won the Hugh Diedrich Award for Outstanding Contribution to Top Tourist Parks of Aust.
Austin Tourist Park is on nine acres of gardens and trees. The modern park offers the traveller a quiet, relaxed holiday. The entrance to the Park has views of the surrounding hills and the camping and caravan area at the back is adjacent to the Peel River with tranquil rural views.
Austin Tourist Park is four kilometers from the centre of Tamworth and is close to most local tourist attractions and sporting facilities. Tamworth is popular for overnight stays and visitors who stay longer and enjoy many arts, crafts and country music attractions or outdoor activities like picnics beside one of the areas lakes or rivers. There is a wide variety of sports and carnivals.
