GoSee Fuel Calculator answers pump price question how many litres does your Recreational Vehicle really use? Slipping Around carries fuel efficient back-up |
We have added a quick-click fuel calculator to the Good Stuff link on the GoSee Home Pages for GoSeeAustralia and GoSee New Zealand.
Give it a click to see how your Recreational Vehicle is really performing at the pump.
We asked our ContACT website design team to create an accurate, easy to use Fuel Calculator in response to the constant Forum postings on claimed performances by various makes of vehicle.

And they delivered. Now GoSee site visitors have a reality check which also translates how far you travelled divided by litres used into litres used per 100km.
For those with longer memories the Fuel Calculator also crunches the numbers into miles per gallon.
The numbers for the GoSee Captiva LX Diesel when it is not towing are -
Editor's Note; January 18 2008.
Here are real figures checked against GPS for this weeks GoSee staff conference between Geelong/Canberra trip with the GoSee Captiva LX diesel on the Hume and Barton Hwys.
The Holden Captiva had 4 persons + luggage 1 way / 3 persons + extra luggage return.
Weather 23 - 35 degrees. Strong head winds for the first two hours of the return trip.
AC operating.
Speed: 100 - 112 kph.
Fuel Used: 150.8 litres
Kms travelled: 1,743
Cost of fuel: $228.40
Ave $1.51 per litre
Ave 13c per km travelled
= 8.65 litres/100 kms travelled
= 11.56 kms travelled / litre
= 32.65 miles per gallon (formula- litres/4.545=gallons, kms/8x5=miles)
Ave speed 85 k/h
Time (incl driving around Canberra x 3 days) 20.4 hrs

Here are pictures of a variety of Recreational Vehicles from the files of GoSee feature Articles.
Most are about GoSee vehicles which the company has extensive experience with.
Each represents a different fuel use situation.
We define "fuel efficient" as a well designed vehicle performing to its specifications across the whole range of touring and towing situations.
To put that in context - it could be argued that our new GoSee SUV Captiva LX diesel auto is not as fuel efficient as the bigger, heavier GoSee flagship Toyota TD Sahara auto. The Sahara is a comfortable truck designed to work hard and hot towing up to 3500kg.
It will do that at fuel use figures similar to the Captiva.
It has a big relaxed six cylinder diesel engine which will last a long time under stress.

Go See Retro Toyota with Hymer Nova in tow averages 16l per 100km |
To underline that our GoSee restored Retro 1985 Sahara diesel has more than 340,000km on its clock without any work being done on the diesel motor since it first fired up 23 years ago.
On the other hand the SUV Captiva LX diesel is a small, 2.2litre highly developed (stressed) turbo diesel.
Its prime design parameter is to carry people. The LX auto version can tow up to 1700kg. The manual version about 2000kg.
Time will tell whether the Captiva diesel motor is a fuel efficient stayer.
Every towing need is an individual thing. All Recreational Vehicle users must make compromises in any vehicle or towing combination they use.
One certainty is that when weight is added to a vehicle it will need more fuel to move that mass. Add headwinds, heat, hills, difficult terrain, sand, mud plus each driver's different driving techniques and defining fuel efficient is a personal thing indeed.
