Australia’s major Recreational Vehicle manufacturer Jayco says that its network of 30 dealers throughout Australia is maintaining solid sales because of strong interest from families.
Jayco Marketing Director, Andrew Ryan, told GoSee today that there is strong demand for multi-berth camper trailers, pop-tops and caravans with bunk beds and specialist niche models like the Expanda and Base Station models.
“It’s obvious from the sales of these models that family interest in Recreational Vehicles is strong,” Andrew Ryan said.
“In some cases we are under pressure to match orders for a number of RV models before Christmas,” he said. Jayco with 45 percent share is the market leader in Australia with its production line approach to RV building.
There has been a marginal decline in purchases of larger two-berth, self contained caravans designed for couples, which is the market segment favoured by superannuated retirees, Andrew Ryan said.

“But even that decrease has been modest because there are so many positives ensuring RVs remain the most cost-effective holiday travel option in the country,” he said.
Andrew Ryan says Jayco endorsed the recent “there’s never been a better time to buy a RV” comments made by the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Australia (RVMAA) that highlighted positives including:
Major drop in fuel prices, so towing or driving a motorhome is more affordable than at any other time in the last 12 months.
The Australian dollar’s dramatic decline means overseas travel is more costly, making holidaying in Australia more attractive.

The unmistakable asset advantage of investing in RV ownership. A well-cared-for five-to-seven-year-old RV will sell close to the original purchase price with an even a better return if traded in on a new model.
Jayco has a range of camper trailers selling between $15,000 and $26,000 that included models that have as many as seven sleeping berths. Some pop-tops and caravans around the $30,000 mark can sleep up to six, Andrew Ryan said.
“Kids love taking friends on holidays, so RVs offering extra accommodation are always very attractive to families,” he said said.
“Over the years our own research has shown that families want an affordable RV that offers stylish comfort and functionality, has easy-to-use fixtures and features and plenty of sleeping berths,” Andrew Ryan said.
