Green Glen Cromie re-opens as Nature heals Black Saturday bushfire scars GoSee Glen Comie office -Work well someone has to do it |
After 50mm of rain Green Glen Cromie Caravan Park near Drouin in Gippsland Victoria is an astonishing example of Natures ability to recover from natural disaster.
Its people bounce back too Karen and Charlie Azzopardi fought Victoria's Black Saturday, Feb 7 fire storm to save their pretty Glen Cromie Caravan Park and came through a little crispy around the caravan park edges.
They re-opened this week. Charlie has mowed the extensive green grass and when GoSee became the first campers since the bushfires Charlie relit the gas hotwater system on the shower block.
We rolled in with the new GoSee Jayco Discovery pop-top on Thursday, March 19 after helping with a caravan Park Buyers Seminar at nearby Park Lane Tourist Park, Traralgon.
The stream is running and there is a new 95,000 litre water tank high on the ridge behind Glen Comie to help visitors clean-up their act.
The new tank replaces two concrete tanks which cracked in the intense heat of the bushfire. As it turned out GoSee did something useful as we became the guinea pigs for getting the temperature right in the showers.

GoSee first caravan since the bushfires |
GoSee can report that we left rested, showered and shaven after a peaceful night in the new GoSee Discovery pop-top on one of the Glen Cromie powered sites.
The great bushfire has left stark blackened trees around the caravan park. The result is a strange compelling beauty which changes when sunlight pours through what was once shaded by heavy foliage. The pretty stream is running, there are yabbie holes along the banks and there are fish in the swimming hole.
The many native birds enjoy feeding on the regenerated insects and dawn and dusk get carols from magpies and a laugh from kookaburras.
The bushfire burnt down the ridge behind the caravan park to within a metre of permanent caravans. Six burned and the fires furnace heat melted plastic caravan lights and fittings. It touched the aluminium skin of one caravan which has survived, but with a section of its metal exterior holed where the massive temperature turned it to powder.
Editors Note: Here are GoSee camera impressions of the Glen Cromie comeback and a link to amazing bushfire pictures from Karen and Charlie.
Glen Crispy (just a little bit burnt around the edges) re-opens today
