Hayman Reese Trailer Ball Weight Scale takes guess out of safe caravan towing
GoSee Jayco Sterling 270kg
on HR Trailer Ball Weight Scale
Hayman Reese Trailer Ball Weight Scale imported by Cequent takes the guesstimation out of safe caravan towing. GoSee used the digital readout unit on two of our company caravans the flagship Jayco Sterling 23 and the GoSee travelling office a light Jayco 16.52 Discovery pop-top.
We used our flagship GoSeeAustralia Turbo Diesel Toyota Sahara (3200kg) with the GoSee company Jayco Sterling caravan dry weight 2332kg. Ball weight 171kg. The Sterling is 2507kg with the water tanks full and the ball weight is 270kg.
GoSee knows that because the Hayman Reese Trailer Ball Weight Scale pops up the numbers on its easy to read digital screen. At 14kg it is the handiest weighbridge GoSee has come across. Every caravan dealer should have one at $890 RRP ( At time of writing).
GoSee Discovery jockey wheel on Ball Weight Scale
The GoSee Jayco Discovery 16.52 poptop caravan has a light GVM of 1497kg, Jayco says which makes it something of a non-event on the heavy duty Hayman Reese towbars of the four GoSee tow tugs.
In fact the "Disco" as it is known among us is a towing "snack" for the modern automatic Toyota Turbo Diesel Sahara, the retro 1985 manual GoSee HJ60 Toyota Sahara turbo diesel and our Holden Rodeo twin cab manual diesel.
The fourth GoSee tug, our auto SUV diesel Holden Captiva makes easy work of towing the Discovery too. The three electronically fuel injected tugs -TD Sahara, Holden Rodeo and Holden Captiva are fitted with the engine efficiency aid the DPchip.
Jayco says the Discovery ball weight is 100kg which is about right depending on how the caravan is loaded according to the Hayman Reese Ball Weight Scale.
Our Hayman Reese Technical Advisor Gary Gardiner recommended GoSee load more into the big Discovery boot at the front of the light caravan to help the Hayman Reese Weight Distribution system do its best work.
Our GoSee tugs, particulary the truck-like Toyota Sahara HJ60 and the Holden twin cab Rodeo diesel manual ute need a load to settle the suspension down for comfortable black-top road running.

We use the new Fulton F2 jockey wheel as a handy lifting aid on the Discovery and it was an excellent back-up to help place the Discovery's jockey wheel on the Hayman Reese Trailer Ball Weight Scale.
It is also handy in difficult campsite situations when its 725kg lifting grunt allows Weight Distribution torsion bars to be fitted regardless of the site slope.
Editor's Note on a Point of Order from Chris Munday in Perth Western Australia:
Chris says -
Hi Garth, I guess I’m not the only one to say this, and I didn’t think it was a forum issue, hence the email.
I am wondering why you would measure the weight under the jockey wheel when that would be 5-10% higher than the ball weight (depending on distance from axle centerline).
I would have thought there would be an arrangement, similar to a jack safety stand, mounted on the scales, directly under the ball socket.
Then the jockey wheel is raised until full weight is on the scales.Probably obvious, and maybe the photos were just for a “quickie”, but if you are using a digital scales, then one would think you were looking for a pretty accurate measurement of the ball weight.
Hello Chris you are right we used the jockey wheel on the Jayco Sterling 23 and the 16.52 Jayco Discovery pop-top company caravans as the measurement point because it was convenience.
But the weight at the ball will be less by the percentage.
So this means if the jockey wheel is within the ball weight limits then it will be 2 to possibly 10 percent lighter at the ball.
This is because the length of the moment from the pivot (axle) is greater.
Once we have a figure on the Hayman Reese Trailer Ball Weight Scale inside the ball weight limits we know we are OK.
GoSee hopes all caravan sales distributors will provide this ball weight check service as part of their business plan to caravan buyers.
I will include this discussion in the Hayman Reese Trailer Ball Weight Information Article so all GoSeers understand where we are coming from.
Thanks for your interest it has added value to the information article. Garth
