Traralgon launch dove-tails responsible sales and caravan buyer education as industry leaders push for towing safety

The education of caravan buyers has dove-tailed with responsible Recreation Vehicles (RV) sales in Traralgon, in Victoria's green Gippsland region.

GoSee in conjunction with towing equipment icon Hayman Reese provided a set of Trailer Ball Weight Scales which help take the guesstimation out of safe caravan towing for the launch of Traralgon Caravan Sales.

GoSeeAustralia’s set of Hayman Reese Tow Ball Weight Scales are on loan to the team at Traralgon Caravan Sales for evaluation on ease of use, customer re-action and feedback.

The new caravan sales outlet will use the Hayman Reese Ball Weight Scales as part of a responsible caravan sales policy which is being driven by industry recognition of caravanning safety issues.

One major caravan and RV insurance company MHIA already requires Registered Training Organisation (RTO) competency based training certification as the trend towards better towing education of caravan owners grows.

Terry Saintly of MHIA told GoSee that MHIA's new requirements for caravan insurance cover are that any new client seeking Insurance cover, with no previous experience, proposing to tow a caravan/trailer over 18 ft length, must complete a Caravan Towing Course conducted by “a reputable company” or RTO prior to their proposal being accepted.

Their caravan will be covered by a cover note for the period involved in travelling to complete the course.

GoSee believes this is a major step forward in responsible towing education.

Traralgon Caravan Sales handles Crusader, Regal and Olympic caravans. Typically everyone involved has extensive camping and caravan park experience and uses and enjoys caravans and Recreational Vehicles.

It is that practical experience that drives a rock solid policy which means no caravan buyer leaves the big Traralgon Caravan Sales yard towing with a vehicle which is not suited to the job.

None of the Traralgon Caravan Sales team want that outcome on their conscience they are into doing the right thing with responsible sales, correct caravan towing setup, ball weight checks and advice on suitable tow vehicles.

Traralgon Caravan Sales also uses the free Hayman Reese www.GoSeeAustralia.com.au TravelSmart Club member towing compatibility module on the GoSee website. They also support GoSee and Registered Training Organisations like Tow-Ed on the value of RTO training for caravanners and Recreational Vehicle users.

This type of responsible selling and owner education is now pro-active in the Industry.

“Our sale team is committed to making sure that everyone’s vehicle is correctly set up and suited to tow the caravan they are purchasing,” Traralgon Caravan Sales Marketing Manager Helen Marshall said.

The Grand Opening of Traralgon Caravan Sales new yard www.traralgoncaravans.com.au attracted plenty of interest from would-be caravanners over three days.

“The response has been fantastic. We are really pleased with the numbers of people who have taken the time to call into our new yard,” Director Graeme Hellings said.

Paul Crabtree has joined the TCS team and is responsible for TCS pre-delivery and pre-sales checks, after sales service, repairs and maintenance, safety inspections and warranty service.  He comes with some 15 years of experience within the caravan/trailer manufacturing industry.

Tow-Ed’s Victorian Training Officer, Mark Grainger, said the Traralgon Caravan Sales team helped safe and responsible towing by providing a Caravan Towing Course conducted by Tow-Ed, an RTO, as an option with the purchase of a new or used caravan.

Tow-Ed, of Prospect NSW, is the Best Product or Service Provider for 2009 in NSW. Tow Ed was named winner at the annual Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW (CCIA) Awards of Excellence in July.

Crusader Caravan’s Anthony Stibilj also took part in the caravaning education weekend assisting with the display of Traralgon Caravan Sales wide range of stock of Crusader Caravans.

Bulloak Camper’s Tony Scott also assisted with the display of a fully setup camper trailer manufactured in Geelong.

Traralgon Caravan Sales provided a free barbecue all weekend for visitors and arranged a major raffle drawn at 2pm on Sunday. Everyone who attended got a raffle ticket.

GoSeeAustralia’s Alan and Pam spent the Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday talking about the benefits to caravanners of the free www.GoSeeAustralia.com.au website, its features and the special functions available under the “Good Stuff” section.

GoSeeAustralia is Australia’s largest on-line caravanning, caravan park, cabin and holiday directory with 8,000 individual visitors a day seeking information from the free international caravanning and touring website.

www.GoSeeAustralia.com.au and its free Kiwi sister website www.GoSeeNewZealand.co.nz list every caravan park in Australia and New Zealand.

Many of the people who spent time at the Traralgon Caravan Sales launch stayed at the nearby Park Lane Tourist Park, a member of the Top Tourist Parks Chain of parks.

Park Lane is a pet friendly caravan park and one of few which have dedicated pet friendly cabins. GoSee staff along with GoSee caravan "guard dog" Chloe were comfortably accommodated in a pet friendly cabin.

GoSee did a DP Chip "economy run" to Traralgon. The GoSee automatic diesel Captiva is fitted with the engine efficiency aid DPChip and we travelled from Geelong to Traralgon via horrible Saturday traffic congestion on Westgate Bridge.

We then detoured Todd Road to Port Melbourne, which is the scenic drive along Port Philip Bay and into the Market City, Dandenong, then back on the M1 freeway to Traralgon.

The congested Melbourne city driving added an hour to our proposed travelling time and increased our fuel consumption significantly. In fact the drive was more about sensible driving techniques rather than economy and we travelled as the traffic allowed avoiding fast acceleration.

Temperatures were in 21 – 25 degree range. The return trip on Sunday was straight down M1, on CityLInk and out to Westgate Bridge over the Yarra River without any delays – 3 hours to Geelong.

Our average speed for the 498km overall trip was 71 kph. Using the GoSee Fuel Use spreadsheet which can be downloaded from the TravelSmart Members Club Good Stuff menu showed consumption figure of 9.54 lt/100 km.
