BIG4 Beacon Resort has been named one of the country’s top tourism performers, collecting the national award for Tourist and Caravan Parks at the Qantas 2009 Australian Tourism Awards.
"We have won this big gold thing and we are over the moon", Lorraine Golightly of Beacon Resort told GoSee today.
"Up to now we have always been the bridesmaid with a run of 'Hall of Merit'performances", she said.
BIG4 Beacon Resort was one of five Victorian winners including the Melbourne Aquarium, at the tourism awards gala held in Hobart on Friday 26 February.
As the most prestigious event on the tourism industry calendar, the national awards celebrate outstanding tourism businesses, attractions, events and individuals from every state and territory.

Victorian Tourism and Major Events Minister Tim Holding commended the team from BIG4 Beacon Resort on their accolade, describing their achievement as a great win for the State.

BIG4 Beacon Resort’s success at the Australian Tourism Awards is a testament to the team’s capacity to excel in a competitive and challenging environment,” Mr Holding said.
The tourism industry is a significant economic driver for Victoria, contributing $15.8 billion to the Victorian economy and employing 185,000 people across the state.
“The success of Victorian tourism operators shows that we have the people, the skills, the capacity and the commitment to continue to buck the downward global trend in tourism,” Mr Holding said.
Victoria’s finalists qualified for national award consideration after winning their category at the Melbourne Airport Victorian Tourism Awards gala and presentation ceremony in November 2009. More than 1200 guests attended the event at the Crown Palladium.
