The Recreational Vehicle (RV) industry travelled well in 2010, according to the most recent sales figures released by Australia’s largest RV manufacturer, Jayco.
Jayco, which holds a 45 percent market share in the RV industry, had a record sales year in 2010 with more than 9,000 motorhomes, caravans, pop tops and camper trailers coming off the line at Jayco’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Dandenong South, Victoria.
Jayco’s Chief Executive Officer, Neil Coulson, said the figures represent a 27 percent increase on the previous year and is confident for the year ahead.
“We are really pleased with the momentum Jayco has achieved in 2010, and we plan to continue our growth into 2011 with a target of 10,000 sales,”Neil Coulson said.
“Last year we increased our manufacturing capacity by opening a new line to build our Starcraft models, one of our most popular units. At the moment, we have around 46 caravans come off our lines each day,” he said.
The figures represent an overall revival of the recreational vehicle industry, with the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Australia (RVMAA) reporting more than 21,000 Recreational Vehicles were produced in 2010.
“We are seeing more and more Australians deciding to purchase an RV and see more of their own backyard. This is also due to baby boomers coming back into the market after recovering from the GFC and seeing a bounce-back in their super funds,” he said.
