Terry Boyce, Special Project and Publicity Officer of the Australasian Touring Caravan, Motorhome & Camping Club (ATCM&CC) says some Australian towns don't want (road) tourists.

But the ATCM&CC is working to change that by explaining the needs of travellers and the benefits they can bring to "competitive" towns he told GoSeeAustralia in an interview by phone last friday.

GoSee spoke with Terry after receiving a media release which he says argues the benefits to towns, caravan parks and tourism of competition in road tourism.

GoSee made contact because we did not fully understand the context of the ATCM&CC media release.

"I was inspired by blogs on "GO SEE AUSTRALIA from small businesses such as Caravan Park Owners/Managers claiming that Grey Nomads, Travellers and Consumers are robbing them of a living, by using low cost or so called free camping in their vicinity which competes with them and small business in their town", he said.

"In some towns consumers with caravans/motorhomes/camper trailers or trucks cannot find places to park in (the) town to spend their money.

"You may not want consumers to stop and spend money in your town because it may upset the town’s people", Terry said.

He said the media release was written on behalf of: "Our (ATCM&CC) Club members who are consumers to help the country folk who are competitive (to) better understand how the consumers in our Club want to spend their money and get value for goods and services that they purchase".

The ATCM&CC media release titled Competition was posted to the Net by our friends at Westprint Friday Fives on Friday, June 15. It can be read in full by following this link. There were responses to the article posted on Friday Fives  on June 22.

GoSee prefers to report, not comment but as Terry says we have provided inspiration readers will please note this Information Article carries a byline which means the story and related stories contain opinion.

GoSee knows readers will make up their own minds, but we suggest that reading the GoSee Information Articles, which come from many sides of this complex free/freedom/value/budget camping area, will help context.

Editor's Note: A byline on a GoSee story indicates opinion. www.GoSeeAustralia.com.au and www.GoSeeNewZealand.co.nz are free touring websites set up by the Canberra based website building company ContACT Internet Solutions .

Both websites are designed to provide an easy to use free national source of information for travellers and the caravanning industry to assist drive tourism in Australia and New Zealand.

Our company policy is to recommend caravan parks for the security of travellers. Our staff members include long-term caravan park owners. GoSee free camps when and where appropriate. GoSee will not free camp to the detriment of a caravan park.

When travelling GoSee pays its way. Usually this is at the commercial rack rate.

The GoSee Forums also contain practical information. A full search of all information on the GoSee website can be done via the Multi-Search box at the top of this page. Key in free camping. Click Forums Threads in the drop down box and click search.
