CCIANSW opts for destinational marketer skills as board aims to build on road tourism growth

The CCIANSW has a top-flight destinational marketer in its new Chief Executive Officer Lyndel Gray.

She will take up the CCIANSW role in mid-July. Lyndel Gray played an integral role in the transition of Tourism NSW to the newly formed Destination New South Wales, and has held the role of Executive Director, Tourism for the past year.

CCIA President, Theo Whitmont said Lyndel Gray’s outstanding industry experience, and proven track record of building industry capacity, was what inspired the organisation to engage her for this strategic leadership role.

“The Board has an aggressive vision for the future of our Association and Ms. Gray has the skills, insights, creativity and relationships that can help us realise our goal”, Theo Whitmont said.

Lyndel Gray led Tourism NSW from 2008-2011, consolidating the State’s position as Australia’s top tourism destination, delivering significant growth in market share for holiday visitor numbers, nights and expenditure in both domestic and international markets.

“There are fantastic opportunities for growth and development. The creation of a successful business environment for all our members – from across the accommodation, manufacturing and retailing sectors - will continue to be a key priority”, Lyndel Gray said.

“This is an association with a powerful reputation and solid direction in a sector that plays a crucial role in the growth of tourism in New South Wales, particularly for Regional communities,” she said

The caravan and camping sector delivers over 25 percent of the holiday nights in regional NSW and will continue to play an important role in the delivery of the State’s 2020 Visitor Economy goals. A significant contributor to this growth will be the increasing popularity of caravan and camping holidays, especially for the family market.

“We are also extremely well placed to benefit from the increasing leisure time of the fast growing baby boomer market,” she said.

Prior to joining Tourism NSW, Ms Gray was Executive General Manager, Western Hemisphere at  Tourism Australia, responsible for its Americas, UK/ Europe, New Zealand, South Africa and Middle East operations.

She also held senior executive roles with the Australian Tourism Commission (now Tourism Australia) in the USA for 14 years, based in both New York and Los Angeles.

In 2001 she was recognised as one of the “Top 100 Marketers in the USA”  for  the innovative partnership programs developed with major Olympic sponsors to promote tourism to Australia and to  capitalise on the Sydney 2000 Games.
