IP44 rating means the MXS25 is (4) protected against intrusion from small tools, wires and screws and (4) being rained on.
The actual criteria of the second 4 rating is - "Water splashing against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful affect". At the top of the liquids IP table an 8 rating is typical of a pond pump. The IP standard aims to provide users with more detailed information than vague marketing terms like 'waterproof'.
