Albury-Wodonga Border RV & Camping Expo pulls on gumboots in heavy weather test

Decision time Wodonga Expo
Decision time Wodonga Expo

The Border RV & Camping Expo second year from the 17th to the 19th hit some of the worst weather in local memory on the Friday. It was so bad trucks we slowing down on the Hume Hwy. But this is country tough territory and gumboots came out and organisers made entry to the Expo free on the first day. Saturday was better and Sunday more so.

Caravan Trades Industry Association Victoria Chief Executive Officer Rob Lucas told GoSee that despite the weather 10,000 came through the gates. There were sales on the Friday despite the cold, rain and mud. That continued with more hardy buyers who knew what they wanted from among the diverse caravan and motorhome offerings.

Robert Lucas is now in Creswick, Victoria, for the annual VicParks Conference which has grown  too big for the Novotel venue and as a result will be held in Melbourne CBD next year. VicParks, which represents the state's caravan park industry, has forged practical bonds with the CIA and the two industry forces are now working on  the  benefits  of being in concert. VicParks President Steve Bartlett confirmed the united approach at the Annual General Meeting this afternoon.

Steve Bartlett, who by virtue of his VicParks presidential role represents the state on the National body the CRVA, is  also the CRVA Treasurer and a member of the executive.

VicParks has grown its park membership to 403, Steve Bartlett told  members in his AGM report..

With energy prices going through the roof, energy efficiency was a big theme at the second annual Border RV & Camping Expo at Wodonga.
Leading the charge was a massive choice of solar power options, with many RVs and caravans at Expo rigged for solar power.
For true self-sufficiency, Kimberley Kampers combined a serious solar array with LED lighting, lithium batteries, diesel hot water and a methanol fuel cell.

A real champion among energy savers is thermal cooking, which can cut energy usage by 80 percent because they keep on cooking long after they are taken off the heat.

GoSee uses  both the Dream-Pot and Shuttle Chef in daily meal preparation.

DreamPot is  an Australian family owned and operated company which has  been in business since 1964.
Keen travellers and campers Barry and Merran Green saw in 1990 a need for hassle-free, delicious cooking, particularly for people on the move.  They demonstrate and develop DreamPot thermal cooking technology backed up  by exclusive recipes.

DreamPot  is  literally Green - Barry, Merran, Ross, Lisa and  Rob.

Free recipes appear each month in the DreamPot eNewsletter.

Thermal Cookware says its Shuttle Chef can save as much as $3.80 in LPG costs when cooking corned beef the thermal way instead of simmering for hours on a gas cooker

The Expo was a family value experience at $10 adults, $8 concession and free for kids under 15 (accompanied by an adult).
