True Blue Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park reopens with campfire to modern family cabins comforts experience High Tide Constructions Family Cabin is craned into place at Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park. |
Rohan and Josephina McDonald of Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park often approach challenges from a completely different point of view. But the contrast in them brings positive results.
Halls Gap Lakeside is a member of the Top Tourist Parks of Australia chain and is now unique among Australian caravan parks. This is bushy boots-and-all, campfire-side, True Blue, with new modern family cabin comforts.
Among Australian caravan parks it is a totally new natural Grampians experience. The pretty Tourist Park is next to Victoria's magnificent world-class Grampians National Park and the fences are literally down to the furred and feathered natives of Australia.

Emus and kangaroos roam about as part of the comfortable camping experience which has been created through huge effort, new cabins and buildings and buckets of sweat and imagination. That includes a wood-fired swimming pool which has reached 34deg to the delight of all age groups.
Extensive landscaping and roadworks are toned to follow the Grampians colors and atmosphere. This extends to cladding buildings in carefully chosen textures and shades.
Native plants like red and yellow Kangaroo Paw underline the Tourist Parks commitment to being part of the overall Grampians National Park experience.
There are also three varieties of grevillia – red, mauve and pink and three varieties of correa, pink, white and yellow in an effort to attract more native birds and add colour. There are also a lot of wattles in the tourist park, near Lake Bellfield, which are now in flower.
Josephina is also talking to the nearby Halls Gap Brambuk Centre about introducing Aboriginal culture and bush tucker to this comfortable camping in the Australian bush experience.
Rohan and Josephina are putting in the newest accommodation facilities available in Halls Gap and as a new three bedroom cabin was craned into place Josephina's enthusiasm bubbled over - "There is an amazing view right up the valley from the cabin!", she rejoiced.
" This is real Australian camping with modern facilities". "We get a lot of people who have never stayed in a caravan park before who have never been close to native animals". "They love it!" "We tell them not to feed the roos, bread is bad for them, and most people understand". "We use native seed for the birds".
"It is an Australian bushland safari and it comes at no extra cost with staying at Lakeside".
"Among Australian caravan parks it is a totally new natural Grampians experience with all comforts", Josephina said.

Rohan's solution to heating the pool with a wood-fired boiler is creative. It is so successful that many Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park guests think it is a naturally heated spa.
Children love it and this means time-out for their carers. The time-out area nearby includes international magazines. It attracts a range of people, but many are young families camping together for the first time in a caravan park. "Seniors and juniors enjoy themselves at the same time", Josephina said.
"It has not been easy but Rohan and I now know that it is a matter of getting the right people behind you. That way you only fall over once and then get back up", Josephina said.
Editors note: In this case the 'right people' are members of the www.GoSeeAustralia.com.au team, Pam and Alan, who have owned Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park in Tymna Drive Halls Gap (near Lake Bellfield) since 1996. They lived in Halls Gap until they moved to Geelong about seven years ago.
Recently, new lessees Rohan and Josephina McDonald purchased the business side of things and since March this year there has been a major re-development of the tourist park which includes installation of a new en-suite amenities building, office, kiosk complex, staff amenities and three bedroom residence.
Rohan and Josephina McDonald are now installing a range of new family cabins which provide the newest accommodation facilities available in Halls Gap.

"Halls Gap has been through some rough times over the past few years and we are excited with the new direction Halls Gap is taking with new marketing initiatives, the fitness and health opportunities provided with almost complete 'bike track' to Lake Bellfield, tours, attractions and festivals, all positive and inviting to visitors to the area", Alan said.
"We are proud of Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park's new direction and support from past and new customers is extremely encouraging. We particularly made a point of using local tradesman and businesses in this major upgrade and want to make Halls Gap the place to visit", he said.
The 're-launch' of Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park will be held on Friday , October 26 from 3 pm to 5 pm."There is an open invitation for locals to inspect the tourist park earlier in the day, with invited guests attending at 3 pm", Alan said. Like the new Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park the re-launch will be different too. Mayor Cr Dorothy Patton, of Northern Grampians Shire, will officiate and she will cut a chain not a cake. www.hallsgaplakeside.com
