The 'Frog Park' BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort in Airlie Beach is the Tourist and Caravan Parks award winner. Adventure Whitsunday Resort took the Australian top park title at the Australian Tourism Awards in Hobart on Friday 15 February.
Known affectionately as the 'Frog Park', this tropical oasis is located in Airlie Beach and is a well-known award-winning resort and almost a destination unto itself.
BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort has consistently swept the pool in the Whitsundays, as regulars in the Whitsunday Hall of Fame the holiday park has won the state Queensland Tourism Award for Tourist and Caravan Parks for the past two years.
“After winning the 2012 Whitsunday and Queensland tourism awards, this is the greatest honour for us. We would like to thank our whole team for delivering constantly superb customer service and making the little things count every day. We know that if you believe in your staff, they will be passionate about looking after your guests and your product,” Owners Greg and Naomi McKinnon said.
BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday was up against stiff competition from all states, however they believe the qualities that make them the number one park in Australia include consistent quality service, a focus on the customer, looking after their staff and being flexible and innovative.
Six out of the seven finalists were from the BIG4 group of parks, confirming the quality and the general level of excellence across the brand.
"It is reassuring in this era of large corporate hospitality chains that people recognise the benefits of a well-run family owned and operated business and that Australians still like to seek out home-grown holidays that reflect the easy and enjoyable Australian lifestyle,” Naomi McKinnon said.
BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort has been in the McKinnon family for 19 years and they have taken it from a half-star property to an award winning one through hard work, commitment, continual investment and a passion for the product, people and the industry.
BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort offers a relaxed, family friendly environment with an extensive range of quality facilities and services, quality cabins and friendly, helpful staff.
Set amongst 26 acres of landscaped grounds the resort caters for a variety of budgets and tastes with a wide range of accommodation options from camping and caravanning sites to designer decorated three bedroom condos.
The Holiday Park is located in Airlie Beach and has easy access to the Great Barrier Reef, Whitsunday Islands, trips, water activities and memorable Australian holiday adventures. The resort includes Airlie Beach’s largest heated lagoon-style swimming pool, water slides, a full-size tennis court, an impressive 18-hole mini-golf course, outdoor movies, organized social events, modern amenities, free barbecues, camp kitchen, games and recreation room and wireless internet.
BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park took home the silver while BIG4 Adelaide Shores Caravan Park was awarded the bronze. BIG4 Holiday Parks CEO, Ray Schleibs, says it is a huge honour for BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort to win at the Tourism Awards as it recognises the park’s commitment to providing the ultimate holiday experience.
"We’re thrilled for BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday. To see one of our parks acknowledged for going above and beyond for their guests is just great", he said.
Along with this year’s national tourism awards winners, the following BIG4 Holiday Parks were recognised as 2012’s elite accommodation providers at the state awards:
