Mount Rosea Lookout - Open

Parks Victoria says a new lookout has been designed and installed at the summit of the popular Mt Rosea . The upgrade of this lookout is part of the development of stage one for the Grampians Peak Trail. The summit can be reached by taking the Mt Rosea walking track from the Mt Rosea carpark on Silverband Road. The lookout provides a safer experience and also panoramic views of the Mt William, Wonderland Range and the Victoria Valley.

For further information regarding this walk call into Brambuk the National Parks and Cultural Centre or call the Parks Victoria Information Centre on 131963.

Kalymna Campground and Kalymna Falls - Open

Parks Victoria staff have completed a new camping experience at Kalymna. This area was badly damaged after the flood and storm events in 2011. This damage, provided a opportunity for Parks Victoria to explore the best walking and camping experience on the eastern side of Mt William. The new campground is a small campground, with four new camping sites providing a quiet setting near Mt William Creek. This site also creates another walking and camping experience as part of the Major Mitchell Plateau remote walk. Visitors to this area can also enjoy the picnic facilities next to the creek and the short walk to Kalymna Falls.

Bomjinna Campground and the walk from the campground is now officially closed due to the Kalymna area providing a enhanced experience for walkers and picnickers to this area.

Stapylton Campground - Closed

The Stapylton Campground in the northern section of the Grampians National Park remains closed due to in-ground bonded asbestos contamination. Parks Victoria has temporarily closed this campground as a precaution for all activities, including camping and is seeking advice from soil contamination experts to explore all options for the cleanup of the site and the future provision of camping services in the Northern Grampians Area.

For other camping opportunities in the Northern Grampians, please visit Brambuk the National Park and Cultural Centre for further information.

Victorian National Parks Camping and Accommodation Fees – Regulatory Impact Statement

The Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) has released a proposal for a user-pays approach to charges for camping and roofed accommodation in parks and reserves managed by Parks Victoria.

The new approach is designed to help fund ongoing maintenance and services to ensure that people can continue to enjoy these special places well into the future. Victorians are invited to provide comment on the regulatory impact statement by 22 November 2013. For more information go to www.depi.vic.gov.au/camping
