Ararat is 205 kilometres west of Melbourne, on the Western Highway on the eastern slopes of the Ararat Hills and Cemetery Creek valley between Victorias Western District and the Wimmera.

The discovery of gold in 1857 during the Victorian gold rush transformed Ararat into a boomtown which continued to prosper until the turn of the 20th century. Gold prospecting is still a favourite passtime for locals and visitors alike.
Pyrenees Caravan Park is located close to the renowned Pyrenees Wine District, only a few minutes drive to the wine village of Great Western and to the rugged grandeur of Halls Gap and the Grampians.
