ANZAC Day Dawn Service FARINA SA

Experience the Dawn Service at Farina on the Oodnadatta Track South Australia (26 km north of Lyndhurst and 55 km south of Marree) Camping facilities provided at the Farina Campground.

ANZAC DAY 2015

Farina has demonstrated its ability, in previous years, to present an ANZAC Day experience which is rarely equalled.
Any endeavour necessary to attend the Anzac Day Ceremony will be well rewarded. Held at our War Memorial precinct set on a rocky outcrop, the Last Post echoes across the campground and the old township into a cool morning breeze, the sun’s rays breaking day behind “the Flinders”.

It is a sombre, nerve tingling, sacred experience.
It’s timely that we conduct our second Dawn Service at this anniversary time.
The sequence of events planned is likely to be:

Thursday 23 April

Advance group arrive for Happy Hour prior to setting up site and caravan park on Friday 24 April. Please contact Cathie or Tom if you can assist.

Saturday 25 April

6.00am – Assemble ready for Dawn Service
8.00am – “Gunfire breakfast” at the Caravan Park
9.30am – Reflections and tributes

La Fiera Italian Festival Myrtleford

Welcome to Myrtleford & La Fiera!

Italian people are all about passion and creativity. 'La Fiera' sets out to capture this spirit by showcasing their art, culture and of course, their food and wine during the period May 19 to May 24, 2015.

Myrtleford is home to many Italian families who over the generations have contributed enormously to the town's vibrant spirit. Set in an idyllic valley at the base of Victoria's alpine region, Myrtleford has earned a reputation for the quality of its produce, its splendid wines and perhaps most importantly, an unhurried lifestyle.

One of the many things to do during this festival is “The Living Chess Match”

2pm Sunday 24/5 Myrtleford Piazza - Back in 1454 in the Italian town of Marostica, two young noblemen played a game of chess for the hand in marriage of the eldest daughter of the Lord of the town. The game was played in public using living people as the chess pieces. Join as we re-enact this colourful event. Free admission

So, let's have some fun - the Italian way!

Alice Springs Beanie Festival

The 19th Alice Springs Beanie Festival will be held across Friday 19 - Monday 22 June 2015.

We're very pleased to announce the theme for 2015 will be Opposites Attract.

We hope this will inspire Beanie Makers and visitors to our iconic Festival of the Beanie to explore human nature, our relationship to the environment and the forces that bring us together.

From contrast and reconciliation to difference and distance, the 2015 festival and exhibition will celebrate how these forces balance and weave communities into the social fabric that binds us all.

Truly a feast for the senses, the festival long weekend will have something for everyone. The opening night will bring a carnival atmosphere to the Araluen Arts Centre, blending music, dance, food and art. Throughout the weekend, workshops will offer opportunities to share in the creativity and diversity of textile arts and crafts, while crowds can enjoy the thrill of the beanie chase to find the perfect beanie (or three!) in Beanie Central.

Since 1997, the Alice Springs Beanie Festival has been creating opportunities for Indigenous women from remote communities to develop their talents and share their designs and stories. At the festival, warm your soul with cross-cultural experiences like weaving workshops, eating kangaroo tail or just having a yarn.

Chocolate Winterfest - Latrobe Tasmania

Held in the beautiful island of Tasmania, Chocolate Winterfest is situated at Latrobe, just 10 minutes drive from Devonport...

Chocolate Winterfest is Latrobe's wickedly delicious festival celebrating all things chocolate.

It is no coincidence that the Latin name for cocoa, from which chocolate is made, translates as "food of the gods". Some cultures even valued chocolate more than gold, and who could blame them. Just the mere mention of chocolate turns heads and that's what Chocolate Winterfest, Latrobe will do to you.

Chocolate Winterfest, Latrobe will indulge, inform, astound, amuse but above all celebrate chocolate as you escape from the bleakness of winter. Be indulged by events individually or successively as you immerse in this chocolate experience.

Don't deny one of life's pleasures - join us at Latrobe on the central northern coast of Tasmania for this unique celebration.

Kings Park Festival

The Kings Park Festival is a long-running tradition to celebrate spring and the wonderful wildflowers that appear throughout the south-west of Western Australia during this time.

Kings Park Festival - click for slideshow
Festival slideshow
From its humble beginnings as a five day event in 1964, depicting plant specimens in jars on trestle tables, the festival has blossomed into the current format of floral displays, live music, exhibitions, workshops, interpretive artworks, guided walks and family activities during the entire month of September.

The Kings Park Festival presented the ‘Magic of Nature’ in September 2014. Nestled among the most spectacular wildflower show on Earth, around 600,000 visitors enjoyed a bewitching program of live music, exhibitions, fascinating guided walks, family fun and much more.

Santos Live Sundays presented another lively series of outdoor music, featuring Australian songstress Christine Anu, local darlings Stratosfunk and a range of fabulous WA talent. More than 6,000 youngsters were spellbound at the Fantastic Faraway Festival for families.

Outdoor exhibitions ‘Unearthed’ and ‘Uprooted’ took visitors on a journey below ground to explore a different perspective of the natural world.

The 2014 Kings Park Festival was made possible through the valuable support of major Festival partner Santos, Lotterywest, the Friends of Kings Park and The West Australian newspaper. We are also grateful to the army of volunteers and staff who bring the Festival to life each year.

Thank you to everyone who made the 2014 Kings Park Festival such a success – especially our wonderful visitors who danced, picnicked, strolled, listened, watched and smiled through another fabulous September.

The Kings Park Festival will return from 1 - 30 September 2015, we'll see you there!

Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show WA

Come and share the Spring beauty of the Ravensthorpe Range, the magnificent Hopetoun Coast and the Fitzgerald River and Frank Hann National Parks.

Over the last 30 years the Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show has developed into one of the best shows in Western Australia. Possibly the largest number in the world of different species of named wildflowers are displayed, collected from one of the world’s richest biodiversity areas.

Escorted 4WD tag along tours will be scheduled through the Ravensthorpe Range. A brochure, available at the Visitors Centre and at the Wildflower Show, identifies 12 drives designed for viewing particular flowers. It is also illustrated with stunning photographs.

An escorted Wildflower Walk is scheduled in the Ravensthorpe Range.

The Railway Heritage Trail provides stunning walks in spring. It is made up of four sections along the old railway track between the towns of Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun. There are plaques identifying flora and fauna and historical sites along the way. The wildflowers in spring are spectacular. Brochures with maps of each section are available.

The Wildflower Show Shop offers many wildflower related books, cards and products, and features the work of local artists and crafts people, and DVDs with botanical information and photographs of over 200 different wildflowers for sale.

The Ravensthorpe Herbarium, situated next door to the Wildflower Show, holds many hundred botanical specimens collected from within the Ravensthorpe Shire. Experts on the local flowers are on hand each day for identification queries.

Devonshire Teas and warming soup are available each day, provided by local fund raising organisations. The comfortable surroundings of the 106 year old Ravensthorpe Community Centre will make a refreshing 'tea break' for the weary traveller.

Proceeds from the Wildflower Show are donated to partnership organisations which assist in the running of the show, the Senior Citizens and the Ravensthorpe Historical Society.

Deni Ute Muster

Many suggestions were raised and discussions centered on the shape and genre of the new festival, what was unanimously agreed though, was that it must showcase our pride of our unique Deniliquin way of life.

Hence the Deni Play on the Plains Festival was conceived, a festival to be held on the flattest, natural, open plains on earth, ute culture an intrinsic part of Deniliquin, would play a major part of the festival and hence the Deni World Record Ute Muster burst into the national psyche.

An amazing 2839 drivers took part, clearly establishing Deniliquin as the ute capital of the world and wrote itself into history claiming the Guinness Book of Records title for the largest parade of legally registered utes in the World.

A new world record bid has been held as part of the annual Play on the Plains Festival each September/October NSW Labour Day Long weekend since then, bringing more and more utes and visitors to our town every year.

Our Festival is a not for profit community event, run by 5 staff, Board of Directors, a volunteer working party and huge support from our local businesses, organisations, sponsors and volunteers.

The program provides entertainment for patrons of all ages including live music for over 24 hours during the event, free children's activities, carnival rides, a ute museum, sports driving competitions, bull ride and interactive competitions.

The permanent site now has a developed cost approaching $2.5 million and is being continuously enhanced by the construction of additional buildings for both the public and exhibitors, provision of additional services including equipment demonstration areas.

Elmore has gained recognition as one of Australia’s premier agricultural Field Days.

The Elmore Events Centre is home to the annual Elmore Field Days in October each year together with a growing range of agricultural and other functions and events. Conveniently situated in north central Victoria this unique venue will soon be an even more valuable facility when the major new development and building plan is completed later in the year to complement the existing facilities on the 154 ha site.

Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival

Conceived by a group of locals in 1989 as a way to attract visitors and raise the profile of the town, the first Wangaratta Festival of Jazz (as it was then known) was staged in 1990, with attendances at around 2500.

Since then – with blues added to the program in 1994 – it has grown to become an internationally renowned event, attracting around 25,000 visitors, and more than 200 jazz and blues artists from the USA, the UK, Europe and Australia.

With a diverse, eclectic mix of jazz greats and rising stars, each year the program showcases jazz and blues of all styles, including original, contemporary, traditional, mainstream, experimental and improvised. A central feature remains the National Jazz Awards; a competition designed to encourage and promote young musicians.

The Festival has won numerous tourism and sponsorship awards, and is recognised internationally as the foremost jazz and blues event in Australia.

Stanthorpe Rocks

It wasn’t just the heat that broke records at Stanthorpe Rocks 2014, as the music festival also broke records being sold out early with a record number of attendees, which is quite an achievement for an event in its second year!

Fabulous feedback from attendees, vendors and business throughout the region is flowing in to event organisers, Slydogz Eventz.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback and a lot of people wanting to book for next year already, which is great for the town and for all of us. Generally people had a really good time. One lady that called into the info centre had taken her mother and her daughter and they all really enjoyed themselves, so the line-up obviously had very broad appeal!” reported Franki from Top of the Town Tourist Park.

Event organiser, Ian Wade-Parker of Slydogz Eventz says the popularity of the event can be attributed to creating the perfect festival formula with even the smallest of details addressed.

“We were really happy with how the day went and the photos are testament to everyone having a great time as there are smiles all around! We are already planning next year to be bigger and better than ever with a new location that will give us more space and allow us to custom build the site. It’s a great event for the region and we are really proud of it,” said Ian Wade Parker, CEO of Slydogz Eventz.

“We’ve developed our own style for our festivals so that we deliver a premier and unique experience which is really attractive to the discerning festival goer. As well as terrific rock music we also provide a great selection of local food and beverages at reasonable prices, superior facilities with everything kept clean throughout the event, happy and friendly staff, a large dance area and even a chill out zone to kick back and relax in that showcases local acoustic musicians.”

It is estimated that the event returned over $1.2 million to the Granite Belt with over 70% of the ticket holders come from outside the region from as far away as Adelaide and Darwin.

There are returns to local accommodation, retail, food and beverage providers and community organisations such as Lions Club of Stanthorpe, Rotary Club of Stanthorpe and Rural Fire Service who undertook fundraising activities at the event.

Slydogz Events announced at the festival they are rolling out the Rocks Events throughout Queensland in 2015 including Charters Towers, Roma and other possible locations. Based on the highly successful Stanthorpe Rocks formula these events are set to be sure winners also.

10th Portarlington Mussell Festival

Plans for the 10th Annual Portarlington Mussel Festival have already started with some special attractions being investigated to help celebrate our 10th festival.

The 2015 festival was again a great success with bumper crowds and lots of entertainment and a great assortment of stalls. Somewhere in the vicinity of 10 ton of mussels were sold on the day and all mussel sellers, both cooked and fresh reported a busy day. With around 100 food and drink stalls patrons had a wide variety of options to eat and drink whist listening to the music being played at 5 locations throughout the festival site. As well as all the entertainment, patrons had around 70 market stalls to check out.

The GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub is in its 36th year and this year’s event will be held on Saturday, 9 January 2016. The GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub is the largest open water swim in the world and is organised and run by volunteers from Lorne Surf Life Saving Club. The course is 1.2km from the Lorne Pier to the foreshore in front of the LSLS clubhouse. Lorne is approximately 2 hours south of Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road.

The entries for the GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub are done on a ballot basis. Firstly you need to register your name via the website www.lornesurfclub.com.au. We have a category called “Sharkbait members”, this is for any swimmer that has completed 10 or more swims. Sharkbait members have the opportunity to enter and pay in the first two weeks of the ballot.

The ballot closes at midnight on November 13th. If you are successful in the ballot you will receive an email and then you have one week to pay for your position in the race.

After one week, second round offers will be emailed to those who are successful. These people have one week to pay for their position.

After this a third round of offers is emailed. And again, these people have one week to pay for their position. Once this process is complete the remaining people are put on a waiting list. If positions become available we will contact you.

The Riverboats Music Festival - Echuca

The Riverboats Music Festival – February 19-21, 2016

From February 13-15, 2015 in a beautiful natural amphitheatre next to Australia’s longest river, we’re building a small stage on an old timber jetty. It’s the same stage we built last year, a stage that across three short years has presented performances by some of Australia’s most adored artists. And we’ve only just begun.

You’re in for some treats this year. Sarah Blasko, Dan Sultan, Tex Perkins & The Dark Horses, The Whitlams, Diesel – it’s impossible to pick a favourite. We cannot wait to experience these artists under the red gums, and if you happen to be passing through we’d love you to join us. Bring a picnic. Bring your friends. Open a bottle of the good stuff and settle in for a weekend you won’t forget
