Mildura Country Music Festival

When Australian country music fans talk of the festival biggies, the Mildura Country Music Festival rates a mention alongside the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Gympie Muster as one of the big three. The major difference between the other two and the annual Mildura Country Music Festival is that Mildura has Australia's biggest showcase of Independent entertainers. What that means is a seemingly unending cast of highly talented professional country music artists who aren't signed to major record label deals.

The venues, 25 in all, spread from the City Mall providing all-day entertainment at central city venues in Mildura to outlying locations like Wentworth, Merbein, Red Cliffs, Coomealla, Irymple, Buronga and Gol Gol. Every taste is catered for with Line Dancing, Country Rock, Bluegrass, Bush Ballads and daily Walk Ups for those not on the program.

The 30th Mildura County Music Festival runs from Friday, September 23rd to Sunday, October 2nd, 2016

Deni Ute Muster

Many suggestions were raised and discussions centered on the shape and genre of the new festival, what was unanimously agreed though, was that it must showcase our pride of our unique Deniliquin way of life.

Hence the Deni Play on the Plains Festival was conceived, a festival to be held on the flattest, natural, open plains on earth, ute culture an intrinsic part of Deniliquin, would play a major part of the festival and hence the Deni World Record Ute Muster burst into the national psyche >>>>

Mary Valley Scarecrow Festival

The inaugural Maleny Scarecrow Festival occurred in 1998 with the concept of a community event that would celebrate the unique rural character of Maleny through the creation and display of scarecrows. Since ancient times, scarecrows have been used throughout the world, not only to protect crops, but also in the belief that their presence would increase fertility and enrich the harvest.
Lyn Fellowes was inspired by this artistic form of cultural expression, to initiate a celebration of creativity through community involvement, having realized that the breathtaking emerald landscape of Maleny was the perfect setting for these incredible characters.

The community responded enthusiastically by creating the magic and sharing the experience. Above all, the scarecrows touched everyone's heart.

As time went by, the festival spread down the Mary Valley, through Conondale and Kenilworth. It had a break during the mid "naughties" (around 2006 I think), especially due to the social pressure placed on the community during the fight against the Queensland State Government over their ill fated Traveston Crossing Dam proposal.

In late 2009, the dam proposal was quashed by the Federal Government and the local community then set about reviving the festival (as the Mary Valley Scarecrow Festival) to help heal the wounds left behind by the bitter confrontations of the past few years. This was well received and towns from Crystal Waters in the south to Lagoon Pocket in the north rolled up their sleeves and created their querky creations a plenty. Thus the festival was re-established.

Join the thousands of people who come along to enjoy the free entertainment, either on the main stage or roving in the streets. Win yourself some great prizes by entering into the many pumpkin competitions on the day. Some of these competitions have free entry. Become a pumpkin roller and have a go at the Great Australian Pumpkin Roll. Send your pumpkin hurtling down Policeman's Hill to see how far it can go. Wander the streets and look at the many street stalls at your leisure, sit down in the local cafes and hotel and enjoy a meal or relax in the park with your family and friends to enjoy a picnic style lunch. A great variety of foods is available to suit all tastes and budgets. Sign the Festival Visitors' Book outside the Food Hall and be in the draw to win a fabulous prize.

The fun starts at 8.00am. See you there!
