Jock whilst I agree speed will certainly wear out tyres as i said in my post that my wear was supposedly caused by softer compound tyres,my speed with towing the van is between 85-90 kmh & very occasionally up to 100k. I have just read an interesting article re silica tyres & there hard wearing and increased fuel economy in the Age paper. they are dearer but good brands Michelen,Hankook & Now Bridgestone so they may be worth looking at.
