There is so many variables involved with any topic these days that it is a wonder to me sometimes , as to how you overcome a problem.
The reason I make that statement - back in 1998 we purchased a new Ford Explorer , had not had it long when there was a recall on it to fit new tyres - at no cost to me , apparently the tyres were of South American manufacture and did not comply with conditions in Australia . So on went 4 brand new A/T what ever they were . 18 months down the track another recall on the Explorer , for , yep the replacement tyres also did not comply , so on went another 4 brand new tyres , again at no cost to me . (wish they would do it again )
A few months after we bought the Explorer , we also purchased a Ford Courier crew cab ,powered by a diesel turbo , this is what we use as a tug for the van . From new I was never happy with the wheel alignment of the courier - but could never improve on the alignment - was not real bad just annoying . Time went by and had to purchase a new set of tyres ( after 40 odd thousand K ) Every time I have new tyres fitted I always get a wheel alignment and this time I had no complaint about it . Same technician always did the job , he specialised in alignments , and when I commented to him about it his exact words were " now you have decent tyres fitted and that is the difference " . Apparently country of manufacture can have a big bearing on tyres and their characteristics , even if it is the same brand . And that was apparently the case withe the Explorer and the Courier , I had replaced the tyres on the courier with the same brand , but different country of manufacture .
It seems that at point of manufacture the lowest quote gets to supply not the best quality .
Some body asked an astronaut - " what are you thinking about during the last few seconds before lift off ?" He replied " This thing was built with parts from the cheapest supplier !!!
I have been following this discussion and had my two bobs worth , but thought I would add another two bob.
Regards Les . Do keep us posted as to the outcome of any further developements .
