Thanks to all for your advice. Common sense has prevailed and I now appreciate the good van I've got.
The ATm of the new van was 2655Kg and the dealer tried to convince me that, to his knowledge nobody has been booked or had their insurance knocked back because of ATM (providing the gross weight of the van doesn't exceed the limit of the tow vehicle.
I asked him if he would back me in a court case and you can imagine the answer.
I also asked the question re recompiance and was told that this particular manufacturer does not do this.
Any how I've learned something.
