WHAT WILL I SEE?
Back O Bourke

The Back O'Bourke Exhibition Centre allows you to experience a journey through life in the back country; rediscovering the stories of Australia through modern eyes, taking you from the rich cultural history of the past through to the future of the Australian Outback.

This world-class centre employs a series of interactive installations and stunning visual screen displays to immerse visitors with stories of the Australian Outback, bringing them to life and actively engaging visitors with the area's rich history.

Engage and uncover stories of early exploration, the poets, local bushrangers, the grazing industry, our legends and conflicts.

Henry Lawson Projection:

Henry Lawson's impression of Bourke was summed up in the words "If you know Bourke, you know Australia".

Get up close and personal with Lawson's writing and life through this full wall projection. A vision of Lawson's writing desk sitting against the wall with a notebook and ink well with a quill, dissipates into a large panoramic piece of parchment.

Lawson's hand writing is projected onto the parchment as layers upon layers of his hand writing build upon each other. We see an ink sketched form walking towards us, it is Lawson himself, he talks to us about Bourke.

E.D. Millen Interactive 'Words' Installation:

The ED Millen installation uses immersive interactive technology that allows people to directly interact with the installation using a series with their body movements.

Walking into a dimly lit tunnel, the visitor can interact with a series of words which are taken from one of E.D. Millen's famous writings. As the projected words on the floor are sensitive to movement, walking towards them or 'kicking' them makes them move around and highlights the remainder of E.D. Millen's writings on the wall.

In order to bring the past into the present, this installation encourages the visitor to see that even though it may have been at the turn of the last century, that E.D. Millen was far ahead of his time in warning about man's impact on the land.

Come and see this fascinating exhibition, and explore all the that the Bourke are and the Kidman Way have to offer!
