WORLD HERITAGE CRUISES
Harry Grining and his brother took their first paying passangers into the Gordon River more than 100 years ago.
Five generations on, the Grinings continue their centure old family tradition, adding a wealth of local knowledge to the mystery and serenity of this special place.
An intimate knowledge of the river also gave rise to the unique, low-wash design for our purpose built cruiser, which meet the dual essentials of passanger comfort and preservation of the riverine environment.
Large windows and spacious boat layout ensure all passengers the maximum from the Cruise.
A World Heritage Cruise is a series of highlights including:
- Some of the oldest convict ruins in Australia on Sarah Island, a settlement which pre-dates Port Arthur by decades - created to put the Fear of God into the convicts of Vand Diemens Land, this tiny outpost of 18th century British penal history hides a fascinating tale of huma triumph over adversity, brought vividly to life by expert guides.
- The intriquing tale of Macquarie Harbour and its settlement
- Passage through Hells Gates - the narrow entrance to Macquarie Harbour named by the convicts on their way to Sarah Island
- High-tech aquqaculture where hundereds of thousands of Tasmanias famous Atlantic Salmon and Ocean Trout are farmed
- The majesty of the rugged mountain ranges in Tasmanias World Heritage listed South West Wilderness National Park.
The days crowning glory is the two hours spent in the serenity of the Gordon River, complete with a stroll into the rainforest which reclaimed the land after the last great ice age.
A scrumptous buffet luncheon and a narrative which brings the river and its rich history to life complete what is an ultimate wilderness experience.
