Nuytsland Nature Reserve, Cocklebiddy, Western Australia | |
| | | | Description The Nuytsland Nature Reserve, managed by the Department of Convservation and Land Management, covers 400,000 hectares of the coastland of the Great Australia Bight.
Within the nature reserve are a number of small caves and collapsed caverns known as Dolines. One such feature is called Dead Dog Cave. This cave is approximately six or seven metres deep and is the site where the mummified remains of a marsupial dog were found. It was scientifically identified as a thylacine or Tasmanian Tiger.
The Reserve is the habitat for an abundance of native flora and fauna. It is a very popular location for birdwatchers. To gain access within the Reserve visitors require a four wheel drive vehicle.
In order that the fragile environment of the Reserve can be preserved in its natural state, visitors are asked to adhere to the rules of the Natural Reserve - no camping, pets, firearms, fires, littering or deviating from the existing tracks. |
