Caravan industry donates $5000 to Annie North to equip family violence facility

The Caravan Industry Association of Victoria (CIA Vic) has donated $5,000 to domestic violence service Annie North to help equip a new purpose-built family violence facility in Bendigo.

CIA Vic's donation coincides with the 14th annual Bendigo Caravan & Camping Leisurefest at Bendigo Racecourse from today until Sunday, with everything for caravanning, camping, four-wheel-driving and off-road touring.

CIA Vic President Nat Schiavello presented $5,000 to Annie North CEO Julie Oberin at theLeisurefest.

We are delighted to help Annie North provide services and supported emergency accommodation for women and their children who have experienced domestic and family violence, he said.

The caravan industry is very much focused on the enjoyment of family life, so it is natural for us to support an organisation that protects families from domestic violence.

It is satisfying to help equip a refuge that will give comfort and practical support to women and children at a time of great need.

Annie North is about is about to commence building its new facility, which will offer counselling and training, a computer lab for remedial homework and skilling-up in a safe place.

Ms Oberin said it would be a beautiful facility with six self-contained units set among landscaped gardens, fruit trees and a kitchen garden.

This generous donation from the caravan industry will help with important equipment such as our computer lab, training kitchen and other facilities, she said.

We depend on donations and community support to provide even such basic necessities as toiletries, underwear and linen, and to help negotiate the housing, legal and education systems.

Donations also provide for essential clothing and personal items which we supply to women and children who have had to flee without their belongings.

Previous beneficiaries of CIA Vic's annual Leisurefest charity donation include the SES, Bendigo Health Palliative Care, Camp Quality, the Maureen Considine Fund, the Salvation Army's Hillskills Workshop, St Luke's Anglicare and Bendigo District RSL.
