Sapphire is the gem variety of the mineral corundum and is one of the most prized gems in the world. Sapphires occur in all colours, all of which are called Sapphires except for the red ones which are called Ruby.
On the Sapphire gem fields the general colours are blue, green and yellow. These three colours can also be found together as multi-colored gems known as Parti-colored Sapphires. Another type of Sapphire found here is called a Star Sapphire and is commonly bronze or black in colour and shows a star-like sheen in certain lighting.
Although blue sapphire is the most well known colour, it is the yellow sapphire, in particular the rich golden yellows that fetch the highest prices. Many of the parti-colored sapphires are also highly valued.
The Sapphire fields are a laid back, peaceful place where the friendly locals will always extend a warm hand of welcome.
