Hugh Diedrich Award honors Top Tourist Parks CEO

The Hugh Diedrich Award is not easily earned. It recognizes exceptional effort over the long-haul for the benefit of Top Tourist Park members. So as a completely surprised Bill Pycroft received it at the Top Tourist Parks Conference in Canberra last night there was no doubtabout it being deserved.

Jenny Diedrich presented the award which honors the memory of her late husband to The Top Tourist parks CEO. After 11 years as CEO it was hard to say who was most pleased - Bill Pycroft or the Top Tourist Park members. Certainly they appreciate the dedication to Top Tourist Parks of a man cut in the same mould as Hugh Diedrich.

Analysis shows Top Tourist Parks
doing well Canberra conference told

Top Tourist park chain members took an analytical look at where they are going at their Conference in Canberra today and found they are doing well.

Great change is not needed, after about 20 years the chains reputation for friendly flexibility is established and a valuable asset.

Rudy Pieck, Partner Business Advisory Services with BDO, held up a performance mirror for Top Tourist Park members based in independent research. He said that input from chain members showed that growing the chain was not about quantity.

Top Tourist must grow with the right quality caravan parks to take its popular brand forward, he said. But while there is no need for radical change the opportunity is to build on that long established Top Tourist Parks friendliness and flexibility.

And when the need comes up for change the response must be immediate with the resources behind it to create change that lasts, he said

Training is right up there in direction planning to keep Top Tourists brand bright and shiny. Review and overhaul of the approach to corporate induction training is a must do.

That includes helping member Tourist Parks access training from both internal and external resources.

There are some questions which need answers. Why is the big growth in caravan ownership not being reflected in a similar lift in visitor site nights in caravan parks?

Where are all those new caravans going?

Thoughts from the floor offer some direction. In Western Australia the Conservation and Land Management (CALM) are the keepers of National Parks in the West and they provide low price camping.

Is the call of Australia being answered by a significant number of new caravan owners? Are they opting for this kind of outdoor caravan experience? It is a fair question so far without a specific statistical answer from the caravan industry.
