Among club team mates Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath is affectionately referred to as Millard in recognition of the early years in his career when he lived in a Millard caravan in a caravan park South of Sydney.
Now the fast bowling legend, keen outdoorsman and dedicated family man, will be the face of the NSW Tourism Award winning NSW Caravan, Camping, 4WD and Holiday Supershow this year.
A country boy from Narromine, McGrath will promote the caravan and camping Supershow through a series of marketing activities leading up to the 2007 NSW Supershow from April 14th to 22nd.
The NSW Caravan, Camping, 4WD and Holiday Supershow is all that I love about the touring lifestyle. I visited the show with my mum and we were both blown away by the hundreds of displays of caravans and other vehicles to get you on the road. We were keen to look at the destinations exhibits for some ideas of unique places to visit on holiday, Glenn McGrath said
Transforming Rosehill Racecourse into an array of products and tourism displays, the 2007 Supershow will be held from 14 - 22 April 2007 and showcase the latest and greatest from the caravan and camping and 4WD industry. Attracting over 85,000 annually, the Supershow is hailed as the best leisure show in NSW with over 400 exhibitors displaying caravans, motorhomes, camper-trailers, tents, caravan, camping and 4WD vehicles and accessories and holiday destinations.
In addition, the Supershow acts as a forum for tourism operators and holiday parks to promote regional tourism. The NSW Caravan, Camping, 4WD and Holiday Supershow was recognised for its commitment to promotion of regional tourism and support of the community, at the 2006 NSW Tourism Awards where it received the award in the Significant Events and Festivals category.
Millard Australia is one the first caravan manufacturers in New South Wales and is regarded as one of the most iconic brands of the Australian caravan industry. McGrath fondly remembers his humble caravan park beginnings which catapulted his cricket career, making him one of Australias most admirable sportsmen.
I drove down from Narromine with my mum, towing my Millard caravan. I made friends with people within the park and became good friends with a fellow in the neighbouring caravan. For 13 months I lived in my caravan whilst working and playing cricket on the side, McGrath recounts.
Now that Im retiring from international cricket after the 2007 World Cup, I plan to spend more time with Jane and the kids and maybe even take them on a caravan holiday somewhere in Australia.
McGraths fond recollections of his beginnings as a club cricketer living in a caravan park, his desire to travel with his family on the great open road and his iconic status amongst all Australians, are synergistic with the NSW Supershow.
The Supershow is all about touring and experiencing the beauty that Australia has to offer. Caravanning and camping holidays have been a part of Australian culture for generations. We are overwhelmed that Glenn has come on board to show Australia the best that caravanning and camping has to offer through promotion of the Supershow, Mr Barry Baillie, CEO, Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW (CCIA) said.
The NSW Caravan, Camping, 4WD and Holiday Supershow will be open from 10am to 5pm daily with free parking for all visitors. Admission costs are $17 for adults, $11 for seniors and pensioners. Children under 16 years are admitted FREE when accompanied by an adult. For further information please visit www.supershow.com.au.
