With interest in Recreational Vehicles and camping going gangbusters at caravanning shows across Australia Bendigo Racecourse will be a firm favourite from Friday November23 to Sunday 25th with more of everything related to the outdoor lifestyle.

Events include towing safety sessions and a complete range of touring and off road accessories. They include outdoor power, tents and camping equipment which reflects the high level of practical design which is now to be found in camping products.

Show Organiser Peter Wright says - Caravanning and camping have become extremely popular holiday choices for Australian families and it is exciting to share the many aspects of our industry in Bendigo each year.

This year we have biggest ever display of tents and camping trailers at Bendigo. Leisurefest also showcases the latest caravan designs, motorhome luxury and an insight into the world of fifth wheelers.

Leisurefest offers a rare opportunity for visitors to see all the latest caravanning and outdoor products in the one place, Peter Wright said.

Thousands of Australians are looking to travel around the country in a caravan or motorhome and the best way to start is to visit a show like Leisurefest, he said.

With the outdoors introducing Australia to new interests Bendigo Prospecting Club is ready to show that there is still gold in them thar hills with demonstrations on gold mining in the City which rose on gold's fortunes.

Bendigo has some of the finest architecture in Australia in its buildings which were often built on the wealth mining produced. Bendigo also has one of the finest art galleries in country Victoria and a cathedral which is so remarkable it ranks among great architecture raised in the name of religion in Australia. Looking down the long nave as sunlight flames the wonderful stainglass is an experience exclusive to Bendigo.

Buying a Caravan, Camper or Tent Trailer Tow vehicle considerations

Peter Wright and the Caravan Industry Australia (Victorian Trades Division) says that if you are planning to buy a caravan, camper or tent trailer and you already own the tow vehicle you must ensure your tow vehicle is capable of towing within the guidelines of the roads department in your state or territory and comply with the caravan, camper or tent trailer manufacture guidelines.

If you have done this you will need to consider the following information for the purchase or your new caravan, camper or tent trailer (consult your tow vehicle handbook or manufacturer):

The tow vehicles allowable (braked and unbraked) towing weight.

The tow ball weight rating.

Any additional equipment required for towing such as the fitment of a transmission or power steering oil cooler in your tow vehicle.

Manufacturer specifications for the type and rating of the tow bar required for specific towing weights.

Tare and gross weight of the caravan, camper or tent trailer you plan to tow*

* Tare is the weight of the caravan, camper or tent trailer after manufacture (this is also considered a dry weight). Gross is the all-up weight the axles are legally permitted to carry. The difference (weight rating) between tare and gross varies from manufacture to manufacture so ensure you always check this.

If you have not yet purchased your tow vehicle this means you will be less limited in your choice of caravan, camper or tent trailer.

You wont be restricted by gross or tow ball weight (unless you are planning to purchase a two-wheel drive tow vehicle) as once you have selected the caravan, camper or tent trailer you can then match the tow vehicle to suit. Of course you must always consider budget and height restrictions.
