Perth hosted the 2008 Red Bull Air Race deciding round of Air Racing over the Swan River over two days with qualifying racing on Saturday November 1 and the deciding Race Day on Sunday November 2.

Touching down in 10 cities worldwide in 2008, the Perth Red Bull Air Race event is the only race of its kind in Australia.

Spectators watched the race from the banks of the Swan River, with the best viewing location on Sir James Mitchell Park in South Perth.

Pilots are penalised for hitting gates. As our GoSee pictures show flying through a gate at speeds up to 400kph is hard...doing it 10 metres off the ground is the Red Bull Air Race.

The Air Race Series is continually evolving and, now into its fourth season. The knock out format left 12 pilots to show their skills on race day.

The Air Race is a new dimension in Motorsport. The competition features a dynamic flying, called 'air racing' with the objective to navigate a aerial obstacle course in the fastest time. Pilots race the clock completing tight turn manoeuvres as they speed through a slalom course plotted by 20m high pylons, called 'air gates'.

Pilots are hand selected based upon their expertise and experience and are at the top of their game. They have to be - the Air Race exerts huge demands on their abilities and bodies, withstanding forces of up to 10G.
