Award success links to trans-Tasman Family Parks add-value culture

Gayle and Don Peters set their 2008 Outback Queensland Tourism Award winner Dalrymple Tourist Van Park apart in the typical Family Parks way by going the extra mile.

As travellers may have to pass other caravan parks to get to Dalrymple Tourist Van Park Gayle and Don have a positive value-add response.

'We go the extra mile for our guests to ensure their stay is comfortable and enjoyable', Gayle Peters said today.

The four star rated Family Parks chain member park is in Charters Towers on the northern entrance to town.

It is on the Lynd Highway about 1.8 kilometres north of the Information Centre and the city centre. The add value approach taken by Gayle and Don is common to the friendly family orientated holiday park culture of the trans-Tasman chain.

Family Parks has 29 holiday parks in New Zealand.

The chain has moved to the second highest number of member parks in Australia with 165 behind Top Tourist Parks of Australia which passed 200 member parks in October.

Another extra mile Family Parks chain member Wendy Cauchy put family into the Family Parks conference in Alice Springs in September.

She told New Zealand and Australian Family Park chain members that - We are a family friendly chain so I thought it would be a good idea to have a colouring competition for young Family Park family members at the conference.

Wendy of Henty Bay Beachfront Van and Cabin Park, Portland, Victoria put her idea to GoSeeAustralia and GoSee New Zealand Managing Director Graham Wallace and colour flew so to speak.

In July 2007 Himatangi Beach Holiday Park's Margaret and Dennis Penney took the 2007 Most Hospitable Holiday Park Experience award at the 50th Holiday Accommodation Parks of New Zealand Conference Trade Exhibition Awards Dinner at Hamilton's Kingsgate Hotel.

Another Family Park which certainly goes the extra mile Bowentown Beach Holiday Park won the Hospitality award in 2006.

Bowentown Beach Holiday Park, the AA Tourism 2006 Hospitality winner, is another Family Parks beachfront location with fishing, walking, swimming and all water sports. There are sea view sites and modern facilities with plenty of room for big rigs.

It is two hours from Auckland. On the doorstep to Coromandel and Bay of Plenty.

Himatangi Beach Holiday Park is an established extra mile award contender. The Family Park was a finalist for the AA Spirit of Hospitality Award in 2005.

Not only are Family Parks in New Zealand and Australia well located many are in exceptional settings, in relation to cities, natural surrounds, wildlife, rivers, beaches, attractions and facilities. This adds a value which money cant buy and is essential to an affordable experience which rejuvenates holiday makers.

That is the essence of the idea which got Family Parks under way in 1990 is a drive from four main aims-

A friendly family atmosphere.

Quality service and facilities.

An enjoyable holiday.

And discounts for Family Park members to recognise their loyalty.

There are three other major drivers - timing, price and a fit with what the caravanning market wants.

Families feel welcome because children can have fun. Older caravanners may grumble as they stretch their superannuation and pensions but they vote with their hip pocket at Family Parks.

The chain is the most pet friendly in Australasia.
