Despite the New Zealand dollar running in the 49c to 52c range against the American Green Back in recent weeks the New Zealand National Motorhome and Caravan Expo in Hamilton this month was a positive experience.
While some major exhibitors who import their stock backed-off or downsized in response to high import costs local New Zealand builders like Leisureline sold well and has a waiting list for its products. Exports of anything Kiwi are of course doing well.
Angela Bryan GoSee New Zealand Operations Manager & Sales Executive said the positive Expo feel was particularly reflected in Expo-goers who were superannuants.
While superannuation is taking big hits from deflated stocks in both New Zealand and Australia GoSee met many people who were ready to spend on the camping lifestyle now.
"They were at the Expo to buy and check out the options, maybe they were not there to buy immediately but they were serious about their interest in motorhomes, caravans, campers and the camping lifestyle", Angela said.
Angela Bryan of GoSeeNewZealand
Thursday at the Expo was a brilliant day from 9.30am it was full-on, she said.
The Friday was busy again and people just kept coming back.
The KEA display was like a Hollywood Film Set - serious, very impressive, it was so big we could not fit it into one picture so we could post it to the GoSee New Zealand website, Angela said.
New Zealand builder Leisureline sold five caravans, two of those went on the Saturday morning. Across the Expo diversity is now particularly evident among New Zealand Recreational Vehicle and mobile home builders as they try to balance product against shifting buyer demands.
Some products on show at the Expo like Rhino Coatings Protection Systems has a head-start. It is a family business based in the Waikato with over 30 years experience in the coatings industry. Its has solutions for non-slip floors, concrete sealing, swimming pool restoration, non-slip padded floors, and sealing
answers for the dairy and food preparation industry.
EZ Towels is a quirky add-water to use wipe GoSee found at the Expo which fits camping and fishing needs.
It comes as a small tablet. The Ez Towels grow once water is added to them and the 100 per cent Rayon expands. Unroll it and it is ready for use. It is reusable, soft, durable and biodegradable.
Three Holiday Parks did well at the Expo with a two nights accommodation prize draw which quickly filled the entry bin with entries.
Hot Water Beach-All Seasons-Miranda HPs combined
The trio are - Miranda Holiday Park on the Front Miranda Rd, Waitakaruru which is owned by Barry Price and run by managers Russell and Sacha. All Seasons Holiday Park in Lee Rd Rotorua is three hours from Auckland only eight minutes from town, without the sulphur smells and close to Lake Rotorua in three hectares of parkland.
Tracie and Kevin of All Seasons have a variety of accommodation choices - from fully-equipped park motels, tourist flats, cabins, 50 bed lodge and powered camp sites for tents, caravan or motor home.
The third Holiday Park in the trio is Hotwater Beach Holiday Park New Zealand's newest park.
