Time out on wheels demographic shifts show at South Australian Caravan and Camping and Outdoor Adventure Show

Innovative designs, along with new products and technologies for self-drive tourism shapes outdoor adventure at the 2010 Caravan and Camping Show at the Adelaide Showground, Wayville from Wednesday 24 February to Sunday 28 February.

Spanning the pavilions and outdoor areas at Adelaides premier exhibition site, the show demonstrates why growing numbers of Australians are enjoying the quality, diversity and affordability of caravan and camping holidays.

While self-drive holidaying is traditionally viewed as the domain of retirees, latest data also shows younger families and couples are increasingly embracing the concept of taking time out on wheels.

Leading dealer A'van Adelaide told GoSee today that cross-over cars of the Sport Utility Vehicle type are popular now with campers. To some extent this shapes the buying choice segments and user demographics in the caravan market.

Campers at around 900kg tow well behind lighter vehicles. Mid-size caravans at around 1400 to 1600kg suit family cars like Ford Falcons and light 4WD and AWD's.

SUV's like the Holden Captiva do well in this towing weight range.

Often this group of campers are time poor and committed to family and business. Short breaks are usual for them in holiday peaks and at weekends.

In South Australia there is a strong retiree segment who plan thoroughly for the long haul. They are the bigger caravan and motorhome buyers. Often they will buy their caravan first and then purchase a towing vehicle to suit the job.

A'van is Australian made but reflects European design excellence in its attention to comfort with double glazed windows and full black-out blinds and insect screens. A'van caravan braking is electric.

A'van Adelaide will be displaying a large selection of caravans at the show, including the ever- popular solid sided folding campers. Visitors will have an opportunity to get hands on with an Aliner, with a working display demonstrating just how quick and simple the campers are to set up and fold away.

A selection of Avans Poptops and full height caravans include the flagship Eurostar range. These caravans are now all available with Avans latest offering the Adventure Pack. With its heavier built chassis, higher ground clearance and upgraded wheels, tyres and suspension, these caravans are designed to take adventurers that bit further to their favorite camp ground.

Presented by the Caravan and Camping Industries Association of SA (CCIASA), the 2010 Caravan Camping Show will also feature the Australian Outdoor Adventure Show.

CCIASA research among people enjoying caravan and camping holidays shows that:

64 per cent take fishing or boating gear;

33 per cent go bushwalking;

27 per cent ride bikes; and

Adventure is a driving force in caravan and camping with our top parks encouraging people to explore and keep active as part of their holiday experience, CCIASA Executive Officer, Stuart Livingstone said.

Here are some innovative outdoor products GoSee knows and uses which are on show in Adelaide -

The Dream-Pot thermal cooker delivers easy-cook nutritious food when it is wanted, where it is wanted. Nothing does more for happy, healthy touring and camping than good nutritious food.

A GoSee extended evaluation on the road and at home of thermal cooking and Dream-Pot shows it delivers on time every time. It saves big time on fuel, gas or electricity and does not demand that someone watches the pot.

Completely portable the Dream-Pot keeps cooking indoors or out once the recipe start-up has been followed. So please read the instructions.

GoSeeuses the 6 litre Dream-Pot which comes with a 2 litre inner pot. This allows cooking variety with recipes which run from soup to cake and most things in between.

On the road the Dream-Pot cooks along under a safety cargo net which restrains it upright in the truck as GoSee travels. It is a good easy to carry friend at the end of a touring day and it cleans up quickly.

Cakes, bread, scones are Dream-Pot options and fruit tea cake, spiced apple muffins and sugarless fruit loaf suit a diabetic meal plan. Dream-Pot is also a rice cooker, Bain Marie, cooler and yoghurt maker.

GoSee also finds that the Dream-Pot is a convenient and power-saving method of cooking for working people when they want a meal ready when they get home.

Roast chicken with the Ozpig

This is another product GoSee found through camping with friends.

The Ozpig is based on a professionally converted 9 kg lpg gas bottle modified with legs, chimney, spark arrestor, cooking plates and internal fire box.

We put the well seasoned GoSee camp oven on top and cook a wonderful Number 10 roast chicken and vegetable in 65 minutes.

When finished, you can keep the kettle hot on the swinging side plates and sit around it for warmth just like a camp fire.

They are clean to use and come in a handy carry bag when packed up. The next morning the pig as GoSee calls it, fired up again and cook eggs and bacon directly on the fire box lid, then for evening meal, barbecue chops and chips in the same way.

You do need kindling, good wood and heatbeads. The heat can be regulated by the draft through opening the front door.

The chimney takes away any smoke. It can all be cleaned down with newspaper and packed up ready for the next trip. But please make sure the coals and Heatbeads are cold before emptying the firebox.

Ozpig is portable, collapsible and easy to transport. When transporting Ozpig, the legs and chimney will fit into the belly. Weighing about 16kgs, Ozpig comes with a vinyl carry bag.

The biological action of Aqua Kem Green means that micro-organisms biologically break down the toilet waste in the tank. It is particularly suitable when emptying the waste tank into septic on camp sites.

Thetford, has been awarded the stringent German Environmental Certificate Blue Angel for its Aqua Kem Green and Aqua Rinse products by the German Federal Environmental Agency.

The award recognises environmental consciousness in toilet additives and a committment to avoid adverse effects on sewage treatment plants.

None of Thetford's toilet additives Green Blue or Pink Rinse include formaldahyde.

Thetford says that Aqua Kem Green acts for a maximum of three to four days with average use. Aqua Chem Blue lasts four to five days with average use, Thetford said.

GoSee thinks it is important to choose a portable toilet and chemical products which are a complete solution and absolutely the best quality available. Which is why GoSee is proud to have Thetford as one of its sponsors.
