Hi guys. Guess we'll be seeing you next week at the (Top Tourist Parks of Australia conference in Brisbane ) but just wanted to let you know 2 things:


1. OutbackQld Tourism have just held their awards and we WON!!! We will be wanting to put our winners logo on the website so will send you that in the next day or so.

2. At the awards weekend they had numerous seminars and one was on websites and searches etc and our website was used as a good example so thank you for that!

Don and Gayle Peters (that is them above)have done a fabulous job at the Sunset Top Tourist Park since taking it over in 2004.

Mt Isa at dusk The Tourist and Caravan Park category is open to all tourist and caravan parks offering a tourism experience. Entry is open but not limited to cabin, caravan and/or tenting accommodation providers.

Sunset Top Tourist Park has operated in Mount Isa for some 25 years with various hosts and owners.

It caters mainly for the holiday market, situated in a quiet location off the highway, 1.5 km from the centre of Mount Isa. Sunset offers spacious, shady, level sites for caravans, budget units, deluxe cabins and two bedroom family villas, all air-conditioned with ensuite.

Continued improvements planned for the park include new ensuite sites, television room, mini golf and more barbecues.


Don and Gayle make hospitality at Sunset Top Tourist Park a full-time experience throughout guests stays and they work to provide them with a memorable time in Mount Isa.

Boating and fishing also at The IsaMulti-award winning attraction Outback at Isa scooped the pool on the night, winning two major Awards. It scored both the Major Tourist Attraction and Heritage and Cultural Tourism awards for the second year in a row!

Outback at Isa has added so much to tourism in Queenslands Outback and its great that we can recognise their achievements in such a way, Barry Duncan, Outback Queensland Tourism Authoritys General Manager said.

Outback at Isa is a multi-experience attraction, with highlights including the Isa Experience, Hard Times Mine and Riversleigh Fossil Centre. Visitors to the centre can also experience what life was like in Mount Isa at the turn of the century.


The Outback Queensland Tourism Awards were judged by an independent Panel, who were extremely impressed with the high standard ofentries this year:

Sunset Top Tourist Park Childrens Playground The Panel was extremely impressed with the number of excellent entries received for the Awards, which recognise the outstanding contributions made by tourism operators, businessesand individuals, in a wide range of categories. We believe the high standard of entries received for the Outback Awards will set the benchmark for the State Awards to be held next month, Mr John Angel, Chairman of the Judging Panel said.

The Isa is an oasis in the rugged Australian Outback, surrounded by vast horizons where the land and sky seem to stretch forever. Mt Isa is a city where dusty, weary travellers find all the creature comforts.

The region is crammed with adventure. This includes exploring the rich mining history, fascinating fossils, spectacular scenery and aboriginal art and culture.

The Hon. Margaret Keech, Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading Wine Industry Development, officiated at the event. Catering for the Awards was done by award-winning Brisbane based Restaurant II, with most of the food supplied to them by Outback producers.

Yes fishing is available at Mt IsaTaryn Onofaro and Dean Miller from Channel Sevens Queensland Weekender program hosted the evening. An exciting entertainment line-up was kept secret until the very last minute.when Hot Mambo was revealed. The sizzling Latin dance band wowed the crowd with their exciting mix of music from Cuba and Brazil !

The guests were extremely impressed with the innovative Carnivale themed event. Most people went to a lot of effort to dress up and looked fabulous', Barry Duncan, General Manager of the OQTA said.
'The food was sensational, the champagne flowed and everyone danced well into the night,he said.
