GoSee is at Orbost Caravan Park at day two of an extended towing trip which will take us up the Victorian and NSW coast to Bateman's Bay.
The route is then via Canberra and the ACT to the Olympic Way via Junee and on to Albury, Seymour, and Yarra Glen to return to our start point in the Melbourne Port Phillip bayside suburb of Bonbeach Victoria.

Our first night on the road was spent at Park Lane Tourist Park Traralgon on one of the caravan park's $30 a double a nightexcellent ensuite sites.
Initial impressions are good. The Santa Fe R Elite version (GoSee test vehicle) has serious grunt which is well placed in the rev range and gearing.
The Hyundai Santa Fe R has returned 10.8 litres per 100km to Orbosttowing the GoSee Jayco Discoveryover 441km of easy highway running from theBonbeach southern office at about 86 to 94kmh.
The new range is now all diesel and AWD. The three variants share a new 2.2-litre unit which offers more power and reduced fuel consumption.
The six-speed lightweight auto delivers more torque than the manual making it a useful towing tug.
Hyundai says the new 2.2 diesel, which cost $227 million to develop (with the help of Bosch), gives buyers the performance of the old 3.3 petrol but at lower running costs.
For 2010 the SLX replaces the old SX as the base model, with entry pricing up $1000. There are now three variants: the SLX, Elite and top of the range Highlander. The base SLX comes standard with five-star crash rating (up from 4 stars), traction and stability control, six airbags, parking sensors, cruise control, iPod and USB connectivity, audio controls on the steering wheel, 17-inch alloys and fog lamps.
The Santa Fe R Elite version (GoSee test vehicle) adds push button start and proximity key, drivers side power seat adjustment, a fold-down conversation mirror as well as auto dusk sensing headlights and dual zone climate control air conditioning. Passengers in the third row also get their own air conditioning vents and fan speed control.

More power for cheaper running costs is a draw card as Hyundai fights for sales with Holden's Captiva, the Kia Sorento (which shares the same engine and transmission package) Toyota Prado and the other half a dozen contenders in the medium SUV competition.

Seven seats are fitted on all grades of the Santa Fe. The second row of seats has a 60/40 split fold function and the third row a 50/50 split fold. The second row kerbside seat can also tumble forward to allow easier access to the third row.
There is an air conditioned cool box on the Elite and Highlander and there is also a convenient storage recess in the rear cargo area.
The Elite has wide-angled cabin mirror, auto headlamps, power adjustment for driver's seat, roof rails and dual climate control zone air conditioning.
The Highlander gets a rear parking camera, leather upholstery, powered front passenger seat, six-stack CD/MP3 audio, 18-inch alloy wheels, rain sensing wipers and a sunroof.
The R series diesel engine makes dramatic gains in performance with significantly reduced fuel consumption. Power and torque climb a 27 per cent to 145kW and 436Nm respectively (421Nm on manual), and deliver all-terrain capability.
Hyundai says the R engine benefits from being the third generation of Boschs common rail system. The piezo-electronic injectors deliver fuel at 1800 bar with an unprecedented degree of accuracy and control. It also features an electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger and is managed by an advanced electronic control unit.
With a 16-valve dual overhead camshaft driven by an internal steel timing chain, the R engine is also fitted with a highly efficient exhaust gas recirculation system with by-pass valve. CO2 emissions have been reduced with all models falling below 200g/km (the 6-speed manual at 176g/km and the auto at 197g/km)+.
The new Santa Fe R comes with the option of Hyundais 6-speed manual or a brand new 6-speed automatic with electronic sequential manual mode.
Designed for transverse engine applications in passenger cars and SUVs, the new compact transaxle places Hyundai in an elite class of automotive manufacturers who have designed their own proprietary six-speed auto (after Toyota and a GM/Ford joint venture).
The Santa Fe comes complete with a full suite of safety features, both active and passive, which have lifted its crash performance to the maximum 5 rating in the ANCAP assessment program. Standard on all models is ESP Stability Control, which includes Hyundais Traction Control System (TCS).
Driver and front passenger airbags, dual side front (thorax) airbags and front and rear passenger side curtain airbags (which extend to the third row) are standard across all three grades of the new Santa Fe.
Rollover sensors are a new feature on all models which, should the vehicle be at risk of overturning, trigger the side and curtain airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners.

Other standard safety features include Rear Park Assist, front active head rests and three point retractable seat belts for all occupants, including the third row. The Santa Fe also features a drivers side safety window that retracts if an obstacle is detected.
Despite a kerb weight of 1988kg for the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine produces quick and smooth acceleration.
The Santa Fe SLX is available in a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, while the Elite and Highlander are offered as an automatic only.
The Santa Fe has an excellent turning circle of 10.8m which GoSee finds makes caravan handling much easier.
