The Best Parks in Australasia (Part 1) GoSee applies dry feet test

By Garth Morrison Editor GoSeeAustralia.com.au and GoSeeNewZealand.co.nz

GoSee believes the best Caravan, Holiday and Tourist Parks in Australia and New Zealand are easy to pick. The sure signs of park excellence point the way. Attention to detail and meticulous maintenance are the key indicators.

These two lynchpins of Caravan, Holiday and Tourist Park management lead to the reason why travellers become regulars in leading Caravan, Holiday and Tourist Parks in Australia and New Zealand.

It's because the Caravan, Holiday and Tourist Park has what they need and what the park offers makes park guests feel good about themselves and their decision to stay.

Price is a big part of the process. But across the spread of road travellers who use Caravan, Holiday and Tourist parks in Australia and New Zealand good value is not driven by automobile club accommodation ratings or Quality Assurance logos.

In an inevitably diminishing older age group aspects of these measures have dimishing value. Now good value is in the eye of the individual beholder.

This ranges from basic (about $A18 a double a night) price expectations which require only a spot to camp to luxury Caravan, Holiday and Tourist Park accommodation which in peak times costs more than $A200 a double a night (August 2010).

This price relates directly to location, season and demand peaks. Both price extremes are seen as value by users who value that aspect of the park accommodation and service options.

For GoSee the rating of the best Caravan, Holiday and Tourist Parks in Australia and New Zealand is entirely practical. Our first test is dry feet.

The dry feet benchmark requires attention to detail by the park with enough shower and dressing space for total user comfort.

To rate as one of GoSee's Best Parks in Australasia amenity block showers must have meticulous maintenance. Reliable hot water. No drips please. Showers must be spotless and drain quickly. GoSee is more than happy to use a hygienically maintained mop and foot-bug killer mix bucket to prepare the way for the next traveller after a shower.

There must be an effective shower curtain or a glass screen between the shower itself and the dressing area. Dry feet require duckboards, drain mats or in the perfect park world of Junee Tourist Park in New South Wales, a neat stack of bath mats supplied and replenished by the meticulous maintained Top Tourist Parks of Australia member.

A GoSee preferred park has plenty of bench space around wash basins. In a quality park there are always useful hooks, high and dry in the places that matter. The handy hooks are beside wash basins, in shower dressing areas, on the back of toilet doors.

In the best parks there is always more than one handy hook. Often parks which show this attention to the real practical needs of their guests are owned and managed by people who have been long-term travellers themselves.

The GoSee dry feet benchmark of course particularly relates to park guests in Australia and New Zealand who opt to use the amenities facilities.

GoSee mostly uses our Recreational Vehicles when on the road but cabins from basic to beautifully appointed figure in GoSee travel accommodation choices too.

So the GoSee attitude to dry feet relates equally to ensuite campsites (for RV's), non-ensuite cabins (budget overnight travel option) which rely on the parks' external amenities facilities and ensuite cabin-style, motel units and villas.

Ensuite campsites for caravans and Recreational Vehicles in general (motorhomes and campers) must be properly surfaced to handle all weathers. When this is done well by the park trails of mud, sticks, leaves, grass, stones and dirt in general are kept to a minimum in the camping experience within the RV and the parksensuite facilities.

Feet not only stay dry when the campsite drains and sweeps clean but the RV interior and bedding in particularly are fit to live with. Sand between the toes on a beach is a feel-good. Sand in the camp beds is disturbing.

In the second feature in this series GoSee finds value in Cabin, chalet, motel unit, villa etc. etc. mix in Australia and New Zealand.
