NZ Motorhome & Caravan Show gears for South Island as Hamilton crowds press on through rain

Michele Connell Managing Director of the show organisers Classic Events says the rain that dampened the region ultimately did not dampen the spirits of the crowd that attended the Camper Care NZ Motorhome & Caravan Show at Claudelands Events Centre, Hamilton from March 3 to 6.

"The South island show will be held in Christchurch from September 30 to October 2at the new venue of the CBS Arena. The dates for next years North Island show have been confirmed as 2 4 March 2012. We have taken on board feedback and have decided to reduce this to a three day event in the future, Michele said.

With a new Naming Rights sponsor, and a stylish, newly renovated Claudelands Events Centre, this show continues to prove it is New Zealands premier event for the industry with strong sales over all areas and fantastic feedback, once again proving how important it is for this growing industry, Michele said.

More than 10,000 visitors plus a huge contingent of NZMCA members staying at another record rally enjoyed the show, but ultimately the heavy rain did affect the crowd and with especially Saturday being so busy, many reflected what it could have been, had we had a fine four days, she said.

There has been a steady stream of fantastic feedback received from exhibitors and visitors alike, on the new look of the show, the new initiatives, the high standard of the exhibitors and the wonderful motorhomes, caravans and accessories on display, Michele said.

This year was the launch of a number of new initiatives, the new Leisureline Kiwi Ingenuity Area, Trail-lite Seminar Series, NewstalkZB New Innovations Area and a dedicated Destinations Court, all proving popular with visitors, she said.

We are pleased to announce the New Innovation voted most popular by the public was the Akwakat congratulations to Greg Gibb for his wonderful idea.

It was a fantastic show despite the rain, and most satisfyingly was the wonderful sales that were achieved by many exhibitors, many had a record show, showing the continuing popularity of this fantastic lifestyle, she said.

One of our strategies was to open up this market to newcomers, hence the many new initiatives at the show to appeal to anyone interested in the great outdoors and the fantastic lifestyle motor homing and caravanning offers ands have many more ideas moving forward to continue to keep growing the event and ultimately the industry, Michele said.

The Kiwi Ingenuity Area at the show included the Breast Cancercure Research Trust restored single axle caravan which was restored my Moselle Panel and Paint Auckland under the design instructions of the Trust's patron Trelise Cooper.

The Retro caravan included a bicycle on the drawbar, a planter box under the rear windows complete with flowers, period fitout and interior fittings. The caravan is part of kiwi history and is an iconic part of the summer holiday so the kiwi classic has been restored as a fundraising vehicle.

Holiday Parks Association NZ spotted the caravan in the trust's monthly e-newsletter and the relationship led to many of the 300 parks around New Zealand taking up the Breast Cancer Research Trusts $1000 Challenge fundraising initiative, in order to help find a cure for breast cancer. With each Park aims to raise at least $1000 and HAPNZ hopes to reach over $300,000 to assist in the funding of critical research.

The caravan is up for tender until March 31, please click to download the Caravan Tender document.
