Bob Gadd of South Australia is the winner of the peak Australian caravan industry Eric Hayman Award for Excellence. Jim Hayman presented the plaque which honours his father before a record audience of more than 500 delegates. Eric Hayman was President of the CTIA (Victoria) for 17 years and also president of the Caravan and Recreational Vehicle Council of Australia.
Eric Hayman Award committee selection panel chairman Ron Chapman said 20 years ago Bob Gadd noted the reversals which had hit the building of caravans in Australia. He called all of the state associations together to discuss the poor state of the industry and the likely affect on the livelihood of the thousands of people who relied on it for their income.
"That meeting one evening in a small room in an Adelaide motel was the catalyst of what today is CRVA. Bob was the founding father of the CRVA. This vision was effectively what we see today a co-ordinated industry funded promotional campaign to grow the industry, Ron Chapman said.

Bob had been in the caravan industry since 1977 and he retired from it in 2005. He was the president of the CCIA of South Australia from 1988 to 1990. He was a committee person for much longer than that. He was a life member of his state body, he said.
At a national level Bob did of course act as an inaugural director of what is now CRVA and he was instrumental in establishing this.
With Bobs initial vision, determination and action is it is fitting on CRVA's 20th anniversary that he is awarded the Eric Hayman 2010 Award for Excellence, Ron Chapman said.
At the 2011 CRVA Conference at Jupiters hotel and Casino on the Gold Coast Bob had a message for the best course for the industry -
Keep on doing what you are doing and you are obviously doing the right thing, he said.
