Winnebago Aust rebrands appealing motorhome options

Avida is now maker of the Australian Winnebago. CEO of Winnebago Australia, Ben Binns says - "Winnebago acquired the business name Winnebago in 1978 striking an agreement in writing with the Winnebago USA company to use the name".

Winnebago Industries of Iowa , a company not associated with Winnebago in Australia, has after 40 years, decided to take action to prevent Winnebago Australia from using the name despite having signed an agreement in the early 1990's, Ben Binns said.

Winnebago has been building motorhomes in Australia since 1965 when Bruce Binns decided to build a slide-on camper on the back of an EH Holden Ute.

Winnebago continues to be run by the family.

The Federal Court of Australia has ruled that there was sufficient knowledge of the Winnebago brand in Australia in 1978, mostly through Australians holidaying in the US, and that Winnebago Industries of Iowa should be entitled to the naming rights.

Winnebago Australia says it will continue its fight for the rights to the Winnebago name in Australia and appeal the Federal Court decision.

Right now and until the show close on Tuesday, Winnebago Australia is at the Caulfield Caravan and Camping Supershow with innovative rebranded products. The new brand name is Avida.

Avida is promoted as the makers of Australian Winnebago.

Avida and Winnebago build the biggest range of motorhomes in Australia. Avida Motorhomes will be promoted initially as the makers of Australian Winnebago to provide credibility to the new brand by associating Avida with the best know motorhome brand in Austalian and New Zealand.
