Flexible power panels allow more appliances on getaways

April 18, 2013

Many GoSeers have a 4WD or RV and enjoy camping or caravanning with their families. These days, when people take off in their Recreational Vehicles (RV's) they need to power fridges, lights, GPS and smartphones.

GoSee is evaluating the Bainbridge Technologies Baintech Power Panels range and your correspondent is impressed with the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) nature of the flexible products.

They connect with adventure and allow more appliances to be managed on the next getaway.

This gear is practical. For example, the Universal Panel can be installed in the rear of a 4WD, on trays and even used as a thumper pack in camp sites.

GoSee will include the new Baintech Universal Power Panel in the camping set-up for our Blue Sky caravan which runs behind the GSA Colorado LXT auto diesel.

We will use the Distribution Panel in the new Jeep Laredo Grand Cherokee 4x4 diesel's camping kit as a portable unit in the vehicle for our tent and with GSA caravans and test RV's. We are keen on the fact that the Distribution Panel can be set-up as completely portable.

In this case we will build it into a small box and crimp on connections for the Anderson plug which we have had fitted to the Jeep.

With everyone's appliances using different plugs – from Engel to merit, ciga and USBs – the standard ciga socket in a 4WD or RV just isn't going to cut it. Suddenly, plans for a simple getaway become more complicated. It is hard to charge mobiles without upsetting someone at camp and a flat battery is a show stopper.

So Bainbridge Technologies has put together a solution, the Baintech Power Panel range. They are DIY easy install power panels with multiple sockets and different combinations of ciga, merit, engel and USB outlets. These panels will easily keep all appliances connected.

Managing your power usage is easy, Baintech panels have an LCD backlit volt meter and battery power is safeguarded with an auto low voltage disconnect feature. That means no flat battery concerns on the next adventure.

With fuse circuit protection appliances are protected against damage.

The panels are cased in hard anodized aluminium to ensure they don't rust.

The versatile, surface mounted, Baintech Universal Power Panel is suitable for a range of vehicles.

It can power up multiple devices with a range of socket configurations. Socket combinations can be personal choice - 1 ciga + 2 merit sockets, or 1 ciga + 1 engel + 1 USB sockets, or 1 ciga + 1 merit + 1 USB sockets.

Hard mount the Universal Power Panel at the rear of a 4WD, or RV. Mount it on the dash or top of a drawer system. It can be turned it into a thumper pack at a campsite with the universal panel connected via an Anderson plug and hang it on the top bracket of a tent pole to run lights or other devices.

The flush mounted Distribution Panel looks smart, sitting flush on the dash or in the rear of a vehicle. Power up the fridge from the rear draw, it comes with 4 on/off switches so each socket can be controlled individually and use the fourth switch as needed.

Like the Baintech Universal Power Panel simply choose from a range of socket combinations to power up a variety of devices at the same time. Combinations include, 1 dual USB socket + 1 ciga socket + 1 engel socket or a USB socket + 2 ciga sockets, alternatively you can have 1 merit socket + 2 ciga sockets.

The flush mounted Distribution Panel has an extra switch which is great for an internal auxiliary light, fan, switching an external relay that may power large devices, lights, water pumps, air compressors, fans and actuators.

There is also a custom designed GU Nissan Patrol Panel which clips directly into the existing rear panel of the Nissan GU model and delivers a merit socket, 2 x standard ciga sockets, an Engel fridge power socket and 1 x 20 Amp push button circuit breaker. Simply remove the factory trim and the secure the panel with the GU's original retainer clips.
