GSA prize adds to moment for Darren and Karyn as Mentals  Rock conference

Our congratulations to Darren and Karyn Core who operate Poplar Tourist Park at Elderslie NSWand recently acquired Shellharbour Beachside Tourist Park at Shellharbour NSW.

They won the ContACT Internet Solutions and GoSeeAustralia Advertorial prize valued at $1100.

ContACT Managing Director Graham Wallace and GoSeeAustralia Sales Manager Alan Hisloppresented the prize to Darren and Karyn at the Caravan and Recreational Vehicle andAccommodation Industry of Australia (CRVA) conference on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Darren and Karyn were among more than 520 industry participants at the conference and werecaught up in the moment at the Industry Gala Dinner which ends the annual three-day conference.

The 'moment' included Aussie legends Mental as Anything, but, in the faceof this stiff New Wave Pop Rock band competition the ContACT InternetSolutions/GoSeeAustralia improved the night for Darren and Karyn.

The 'Mentals had top 50 chart success with 'Too Many Times' and its album, Cats Dogs inCanada, which followed touring North America in support of Men At Work. 'Live it Up' reachedthe top 50 in European charts including peaking at No. 3 in UK, No. 4 in Norway, and No. 6 inGermany, after it featured in the 1986 Australian film 'Crocodile Dundee'. The band was formed ata Sydney art school in 1976.

Their top 10 Australian singles are, If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too? and Too Many Times in1981, Live it Up in 1985 and Rock and Roll Music in 1988. While their top 10 albums are, Cats Dogs in 1981, Creatures of Leisure in 1983, Fundamental in 1985 and Greatest Hits Vol. 1 in1986. On 16 August 1997, Mental As Anything celebrated 20 years together with the same line-up.

It was not until 2000 that the band line-up had its first official changes. Current Mentals are MartinPlaza, guitar and vocals, Greedy Smith, keyboards, harmonica and vocals. Mike Caen guitar andvocals, Zoltan Budai, bass guitar and Jacob Cook. Martin Plaza and Greedy Smith are Mentalsoriginals. Since 1976 band members - Martin Plaza, Greedy Smith, Jacob Cook, Mike Caen, Zoltan Budai, Reg Mombassa, Peter O'Doherty, David Twohill.
