3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 engine
The new Grand Cherokee is available with the latest iteration of the efficient 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6engine, which now produces maximum power of 184 kW at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 570Nm at 2,000 rpm, which is 20 Nm more than the previous model and accessible almost 30 per centlower in the rev range (previously 550 Nm at 2,800 rpm).
Combined with the new eight-speed transmission, fuel economy for the combined cycle is 7.5L/100km, which represents a 10 per cent improvement in comparison to the previous model, despite the increases in power and torque.
Compact and lightweight, the 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine features a 1,800-bar common-rail fuelinjection system, a compressed graphite iron 60-degree block with aluminium cylinder heads and atwo-piece structural aluminium oil pan.
The cylinder heads are constructed of aluminium and featurea chain-driven, dual overhead-camshaft design with four valves per cylinder, while cast-iron exhaustmanifolds have been utilised.
Additional emissions controls include a close-coupled diesel oxidation catalyst and standard dieselparticulate filter. Euro 5+ emissions are met through an exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) system thatincludes an EGR valve with DC motor and a high-performance EGR cooler with bypass valve.
The new Uconnect with 8.4-inch touchscreen and satellite navigation (Uconnect 8.4N) is standardon Grand Cherokee Limited, Overland and SRT models. Uconnect with 8.4-inch touchscreen(Uconnect 8.4) is standard on Laredo 4x4 models, while the new entry-level Laredo 4x2 model isequipped with a new Uconnect 5.0-inch touchscreen display system (Uconnect 5.0).

In addition to its standard safety equipment, including Electronic Stability Control (ESC) withElectronic Rollover Mitigation (ERM), ABS with off-road calibration, Brake Traction ControlSystem (BTCS) and seven airbags (advanced multi-stage driver and front passenger, front seat sideairbags, side curtain airbags for front and rear occupants, driver knee airbag), the new GrandCherokee offers upgraded Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation, Adaptive CruiseControl, ParkView rear back up camera with dynamic grid, ParkSense park assist system and newSelec-Speed Control with Hill Ascent Control and Hill Descent Control, assisting the driver whenclimbing and descending steep grades.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): This system decreases the vehicles pre-set cruise-control speedwhen closing in on another vehicle in the same lane, or when another vehicle pulls into the same lane.ACC will accelerate to the pre-set speed when the vehicle in front speeds up or moves into anotherlane.
The system will also maintain a driver adjustable distance between the vehicle and the one infront of it and is particularly useful when driving in adverse meteorological conditions or in situationsof reduced visibility. On the Overland and SRT models, ACC is included in the standard AdvancedSafety Technology Group.
