Cann River, March 1 2006GoSeeAustralia Great Drives of Australia. The Monaro Way. Melbourne to Canberra via Sale, Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Cann River and Cooma
We decided to head for Canberra via Cann River and Cooma because we had not done the Monaro Hwy leg before. That makes it different and therefore interesting.

So we saddled up GoSeeAustralias restored 1985 Sahara Land Cruiser manual diesel. Plugged in a borrowed Engel frig to the auxiliary battery, added food, tools, bedding and camping gear and tackled the 735km route. Twelve hours later we reached our destination in Banks ACT. Our actual travelling time was 9 hours 45 minutes and we spent 2 hours and 15 minutes in stops along the way.

Western Australia is so fresh and the people are friendly.

We covered a lot of good highways in extended touring for Go SeeAustralia of Australia's biggest state and saw a really interesting range of attractions and experiences.

We surfed Wave Rock, near Hyden. It is amazing and we rate it the best experience we had while in Western Australia.

This came as a surprise as many people advised us not to take the 339km drive southeast of Perth. They said it was boring, we do not agree.

Quaint, coastal Nambucca Heads started out as a ship building town and the links with the sea are everywhere. The Nambucca Mural in the centre of town dances with ocean icons.

Dolphins, an octopus and fish emerge from concrete waves in a sculpture which is among the longest in Australia.

Sail your caravan through the Nullarbor winds
Bashing into strong winds is no fun regardless of whether the RV involved is a caravan, campervan, motor home, 4WD or camper-trailer behind a family sedan.

Crossing the Nullarbor is one caravanning experience which can be a lot easier if a close watch is kept on wind and weather.
